Make the Road States (MRstates) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, this in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella. From an operational spectrum it serves as the Finance and Human Resources Compliance Officers for the umbrella at large. Make the Road Connecticut, is a statewide organization that builds the power of immigrants and low-income Latinx in Bridgeport and Hartford to achieve dignity and justice. We do this by community organizing, legal and survival services, transformative education, and policy innovation. We tackle the issues that directly impact our communities of color: immigration reform, economic justice, education equity, LGBTQ justice, womxn's justice, and youth justice. Make the Road Connecticut is a project of Make the Road States Inc Current Opening: The Deputy Organizing Director supports the Organizing Department in overseeing a statewide team of community organizers and senior level organizers leading statewide campaigns within the state. The Deputy Organizing Director will also support national campaigns and program expansion efforts and will support ongoing social justice campaigns including immigrant rights, climate justice, housing, education, and other economic, social and racial justice campaigns as identified by members. The Deputy Organizing Director provides ongoing coaching, training, supervision and support to the organizing department. The Deputy Organizing Director supports the development of our civic engagement work. The Deputy Organizing Director will also work closely with the Co-Deputy Director to ensure that campaign goals, strategies, messaging and funding opportunities and deliverables to funders are completed. Lastly, the Deputy Organizing Director will oversee base building, leadership development and member engagement seeking to build long term power for our communities. Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Supervise Bridgeport Organizers
- Train and support new staff
- Hold organizers accountable
- Create open and inclusive dialogue with organizing team
- The Deputy Organizing Director will support development and execution of organizing strategy
- Co-develop with organizers the overall strategy with strategic direction from membership bases and inputs other departments
- Support organizers in building and running campaign plans.
- Provide innovative strategies to add more capacity and infrastructure to the organizing department
- Cross base alliance and organizational cohesion
- Seek out and create opportunities for the organizing work to connect, build power, alliance and solidarity toward a shared vision and politics.
- Support the development of civic engagement work.
- Organizational building with coalitions and close allies and partners
- Maintain, manage and develop strategic partners and allies to support broad organizational campaigns and goals to create the best possible space for community members to organize
- Coordinate allies to support campaign work as needed
- Represent the organization in external and internal meetings, coalitions tables, state tables, conferences, etc.
- Develop organizing team to represent the organization in coalition tables, internal and external meetings
- Oversee Every Action data management and other HR and operations related responsibilities
- The Deputy Organizing Director will help oversee base building, leadership development and member engagement
- Deputy Organizing Director will support the Development team in organizational fundraising efforts and overseeing membership dues programs.
- When necessary coordinate, facilitate and execute organizational meetings
- Due to the nature of this role, unforeseen situations may arise. As a result, you may be required to complete other duties to support the overall mission of Make the Road CT. Some examples include, but are not limited to: Make the Road States activities
Requirements:
- Eligible to work in the US
- Required to be fully vaccinated with a FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.
- Have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change
- At least 5-7 years of proven experience supervising, campaign development and/or similar
- Able to meet deadlines with simultaneous projects
- Be open and flexible to work evenings and weekends.
- Speaking and writing in English is required.
- Speaking and writing in Spanish is required.
- A car and driver's license is required
- Required to work from home and satellite offices as needed.

- Flexible work schedule, some evenings or weekends required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High level of accountability and initiative; needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work to support the organization as a whole
Salary and Benefits: MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days.
