Deputy School District Treasurer The Port Byron Central School District is currently seeking a Deputy School District Treasurer. Qualifications: • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Accounting or Finance and two years of experience in maintaining and/or auditing financial accounts and records • Accuracy and completeness for all payroll and financial processing is essential • Knowledge of the principles and practices of general and governmental accounting • Must take and pass the Cayuga County Civil Service Exam for Deputy School District Treasurer (Competitive Civil Service Position) and must be reachable on the list • Knowledge of federal, state and local purchasing requirements is required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
PAYROLL: • Process bi-weekly payrolls • Process paychecks for distribution and mailing. • Submit Federal and NYS Taxes • Process flexible benefit, 403 (B) and payroll deductions • Process direct deposit • Perform ERS/TRS processing • Review timesheets, verify hours worked or missed due to leave, illness, tardiness and/or vacation • Enter information from time sheets • Perform payroll processing duties such as calculating, data keying, and balancing • Maintain and/ or reviews attendance records for employees • Explain payroll related information and options; direct deposit, timecard coding, and deferred compensation either by meeting with employees or responding to inquiries • Produce reports as needed • Develop spreadsheet and database records • Perform various other office duties as assigned
PURCHASING AND PAYABLES: • Maintain and monitor vendor W-9 files • Process approved purchase orders • Enter requisitions as needed • Initiates requisition of purchase orders for textbooks, library materials and software with non-public schools • Prepare warrants for check processing • Process annual 1099s
GENERAL ACCOUNTING (Assists District Treasurer): • Assists with the accounting process of the school district assuming responsibility for the receipt and disbursement of district monies and for their appropriate recording • Assist in projecting revenues available to the school district • Assist with maintenance of the system of control for inventories of equipment • Participate in the organization, retention, and authorizing the disposition of the records of the office of the treasurer. • Assist with external audits of all district financial records • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Treasurer or Business Official
SALARY: • 52K – 55K annually
