  • The Deputy Sheriff Patrol performs general law enforcement patrol duties, including, but not limited to, responding to incidents, traffic control, routine patrol, investigating crimes, and related activities. This generalist position emphasizes the application of modern law enforcement methods and general law enforcement duties. This individual will exercise discretion and independence while performing various law enforcement duties and tasks.

Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor activity within the assigned patrol area, taking necessary enforcement or assistance action as appropriate to specific incidents.
  • Self-initiate appropriate activity when not involved with assigned tasks.
  • Respond to and take appropriate action when given specific assignments.
  • Properly document actions and follow applicable reporting and administrative requirements.
  • Promptly and appropriately communicate information concerning activities and observations.
  • Learn, develop, and appropriately apply general law enforcement skills.
Job Requirements
  • Must be eligible for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification or be enrolled to attend the WI Law Enforcement Recruit Academy
  • Minimum of 60 college credits in addition to high school diploma or equivalent
  • U.S. Citizen; minimum age - 18
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • No Felony convictions; No Domestic Abuse convictions
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Ability to perform essential job functions of this position
  • Ability to obtain and retain certification as a law enforcement officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board if not already certified
  • Full-time sworn deputies of the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office must reside within Ozaukee County or counties adjacent to Ozaukee County. These counties include Sheboygan, Washington, Milwaukee, and Waukesha. Must move within the boundary of Ozaukee County within six months of completing probation; probation is one year

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, other law enforcement officials, and the public
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Working Environment
  • The Deputy Sheriff - Patrol works almost exclusively from a squad vehicle and is subject to all weather. This is a uniformed position.

  • Testing location: Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, Training Room, 1201 S Spring St, Port Washington, WI 53074.
  • No late admittance allowed. There are no alternate test dates. Approximate test length is 2 hours. Cell phones must be on silent. Beverages allowed.
  • Top scoring candidates will be invited to interview for immediate opening and hiring list.
  • This will be an ongoing recruitment.
