Design Engineer (Marine)

Our client is seeking a Design Engineer (Marine) to join their team. This company operates a shipyard specializing in the construction of dry docks and large steel vessels. They are dedicated to delivering high-quality marine solutions. The ideal candidate will bring mechanical design expertise, marine experience, and proficiency in AutoCAD to this dynamic role.

This role is onsite in Portland, Oregon.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vessel basic design tasks, including specifications, general arrangement, and hull structure.
  • Develop systems designs for piping, machinery, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct detailed design for outfitting components and systems.
  • Provide engineering analysis to assist production teams, material handling, and internal fabrication departments, including shipyard equipment/tools design and module-lifting schemes.
  • Create 3D models for hull structure, piping, machinery, and outfitting items.
  • Produce 2D and 3D production drawing packages to support construction processes.
  • Perform material take-offs for hull structure, piping, electrical systems, and outfitting components.
  • Review 3D models and assembly drawings for completeness, clarity, and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required.
  • At least two years of experience in a fast-paced production environment is preferred.
  • Marine shipyard production engineering experience is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Recent graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and relevant internships will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required; experience with ShipConstructor software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail with robust analytical and judgment skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and thrive in a team-oriented environment.
