Summary Develop, research, design, implement, test, and evaluate software and hardware. Collaborate with marketing group for adjustments as product evolves through the development cycle as well as updates and changes over products life cycles to meet the changing needs of our customers. Essential Job Duties
- Assist other engineers in developing new hardware and software products.
- Obtain pricing and availability of new components used in a design.
- Coordinate the ordering of parts for prototype and/or concept designs.
- Develop and support Product Evaluation Procedures.
- Evaluate test data and troubleshoot existing designs.
- Write Engineering Change Requests as required.
- Develop electrical hardware designs and schematics. Utilize PC based tools to document the designs for passage into the manufacturing area.
- Develop Software for electrical scale instrumentation and other related components.
- Perform testing on HW, SW and scale designs.
- Write engineering specifications for product development.
- Meet with various vendors and evaluate new and current parts that can either save money, be an alternate source, or provide a simpler/better solution.
- Support engineering, marketing, purchasing, manufacturing, and field service throughout the life of a product.
- Evaluate parts changes/replacements requested by purchasing.
- Write, review, and update Service or Operator Manuals.
- Develop test plans.
- Provide input on timelines, provide cost estimates, and write engineering specifications for product development.
- Meet with various vendors and evaluate new and current parts that can either save money, be an alternate source, or provide a simple/better solution; evaluate requests from Purchasing to review parts changes or replacements.
- Support and collaborate with the Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Field Service groups and any other business function throughout the life cycle of the products.
Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
- This position requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engeneering Technology or equivalent combined education and related work experience.
- Must have a minimum of eight or more years of directly related experience.
- General knowledge of electronic devices, particularly microprocessors and analog/communication interfaces and low power devices.
- Experience working with C assemblers, compilers and emulators.
- Experience in programming in LUA.
- Experience working with Altium Design Software or similar platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Strong PC skills including hardware and standard software applications used.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Knowledge of PC hardware, software, communication/interface protocols, machine design and manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles of scale design, testing and manufacturing.
- Critical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
- On occasion, field customer visits may be necessary for design input, or troubleshooting and conditions will vary greatly based on type of industry i.e. construction, waste management, food processing, agriculture, warehousing, etc.
