Job Description Design Manager is a critical role on DPR Construction projects. Design manager is responsible for interfacing with the client and the design team to help complete the design and manages the coordination process so that the design can be realized into the fabrication level shop drawings and eventually construction.
Responsibilities: - Managing the design process using technical expertise in Architecture or other Design disciplines by interfacing with owner and the Design team members
- Supporting, understanding and advising the client as to the requirements and obligations in the development of a building design from a constructability perspective
- Interfacing with the permitting agencies and inspection agencies to ensure that Design complies with the local, regional and national codes.
- Ensuring design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project schedule
- Providing constructability feedback to designers to ensure that design is buildable
- Integrating the fabrication level shop drawings models with the design models to ensure that the fabrication level models from the subcontractors to meet the design intent
- Managing and taking the responsibility for the Design and coordination schedule on the project to meet the project objectives established by the client
Qualifications: - Architectural / Design or technical background in managing the design coordination process
- In-depth knowledge of all aspects of a construction project including the design coordination, permitting and model coordination, shop drawing process
- In-depth knowledge of Building Information Modeling software including AutoCad and Autodesk Building Design Suite, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, Trimble Tekla Structures and other similar platforms.
- Good communication and people skills and management skills
- Excellent motivational and leadership skills and ability to work independently and proactively in a fast track project environment.
- Work well under pressure
- Ability to present ideas effectively to clients, design team members and subcontractors, permitting agencies
- Able to evaluate ideas of others
- Ability to travel to the jobsites or to design team offices when required.
- Providing constructability and cost feedback to the Design team on various design options
- Providing estimating and quantity take offs to various designs
- A Bachelor's degree in Architecture / Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent engineering discipline
- At least 4-6 years of experience in a Construction Management, General contracting or Architectural firm in Project engineering or Project management roles
- Minimum 4 years of experience working on construction projects either in the field or field office.
- Proficiency with BIM software including AutoCad and Autodesk Building Design Suite, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, Trimble Tekla Structures and other similar platforms.
- Proficiency with Lean Construction scheduling techniques such as Last Planner system, Pull planning and Critical Path method scheduling
