Design Operations Director: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family How You Will Make a Difference: As a Design Operations Director you will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day function of the Design department including providing administrative support to the Head of Design Studio, assist with updates and distribute all finalized seasonal development calendars across multiple product categories to both internal and external partners as well as maintain the master mapping calendar across all brands and categories. This job starts with working closely with the Head of Design Studio and the design team at the initial stages of the design process through to the launches, selection of materials and manufacturers, fabrications, fittings, production, and timely delivery of the sample garments. Under the guidance of the Head of Design Studio, the Design Operations Director assists in the process from design through to production of samples meets all deadlines, and achieves all quality control, commercial and aesthetic objectives.Within the company, the Design Operations Director receives information quickly, proactively and accurately among the design, merchandising, brand/marketing and production teams. Furthermore, the Design Operations Director is responsible for ensuring that the teams have everything needed (resources, information and direction) to ensure they can complete their roles effectively.
Design Process:- Provide assistance to the Design Operations Director as needed with the design team as they develop and execute each collection, special projects and collaborations
- Under the guidance of the Head of Design Studio, manage the resources needed to complete collection research and development
- Work alongside the Merchandising Team to identify key holes within the developing line plan of each season and communicate needs to the Design team so they are filled
Calendar Management:- Partially responsible for timeline adherence and ensures that work is completed in budgeted time and in accordance with collection schedules for key categories (for example Hats, Accessories, Knits, or Tees)
- Assists in managing multi-seasonal design development calendar based on seasonal release as well as understanding of Production schedule for key categories (for example Hats, Accessories, Knits, or Tees)
- Partners with Production & Development on setting calendars to align cross-product departments for categories (for example Hats, Accessories, Knits, or Tees)
- Responsible for follow up and follow through for deliverables in key categories (for example Hats, Accessories, Knits, or Tees)
Design Team Communication Flow:- Information should be communicated through this person and then expressed to the necessary parties. The goal is to streamline communications and manage the team through sharing pertinent information when necessary.
- Work proactively to anticipate and plan for all potential problems such as design delays, production and development delays, high pricing and quality control issues and flag any issues that arise to the Studio Director so swift and coordinated action can be taken.
- Aids in project management of assignments within both design/production (with the exception of some creative and drawing assignments which are managed directly by Creative Director/Founder in conjunction with Studio Director)
- Helps prioritize tasks based on their level of importance, in terms of timing, workload, design changes and budget constraints.
Development/Production Team Communication Flow:- The Design Operations Director should assist in solving issues with the development/production team
- Have a good understanding of Production & Development process and timeline in order to coordinate back with Design to achieve the set goals & milestones.
Orders:- Have an understanding of the order calendar for both our Japanese partners and domestic retail locations. Make sure Merchandising and Production Teams are in alignment with each other to satisfy timely orders.
Special Project Relations:- Work Closely with the Head of Design Studio on all communication surrounding our brand collaborators.
Administrative Support:- Serve as a liaison between HR and Design team to communicate any office announcements
- Coordinate with Department managers and Founder Executive Assistant to create and maintain office schedule
- Partner with Design Coordinator to manage and assists with office vacation approvals
- Responsible for coordinating and organizing all Design/Production meetings
Years of Related Professional Experience: 7-8 years
Educational/ Position Requirements: - Demonstrated ability to manage high volumes of workflow including prioritization, planning and task delegation under tight deadlines
- Proactive in seeking and providing opportunities to improve the team's efficiencies
- Have exceptional organizational and leadership skills
- Proficient in Excel, Photoshop, InDesign
- Expert knowledge in design and production operations, managing processes and workflows
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Comprehensive assessment of brand and ability to absorb unique perspective
Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements: - Travel by air and overnight, as required
Hiring Range:$165,600.00 USD - $207,000.00 USD annually
Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
