Design Operations Manager I Position description

Success Profile:The Design Operations Manager, Dresses, is responsible for leading the timely execution of the end-to-end product sampling process for Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and BCBG for Dresses, from the initial selection of raw materials to the delivery of final showroom samples.

We are seeking a dynamic Design Operations Project Manager, a problem-solver by nature, skilled at improving team cohesion, streamlining processes, and enabling teams to deliver outstanding products on time.

The role will act as the critical link between the Design team and all cross-functional partners, collaborating with and assisting the Design team to produce the best-in-class designs. You will manage timelines and resources to enable the cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and lead pre-costing and raw materials/samples tracking.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, curious and practical, yet passionate team player with experience working with designers and stakeholders across the various phases of the design process to improve the strategic position and efficiency of the department.

Reporting to: Vice President of Design, Dresses

Brand/Product Focus: Calvin Klein, BCBG Dresses

Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan Fashion District

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Pre-Costing Management:
  • Develop and manage budgets for design projects.
  • Own all prototype costing, be an active partner in establishing product first cost
    • Conduct cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
    • Monitor and report on project spending and variances.
    • Order raw materials and trim
    • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the designers, product development team, CAD & Graphics, PLM Data Entry, Production and vendors.
    • Daily communication with suppliers and vendors to trac samples development, shipments and raw materials orders.
    • Act as a liaison between the design team and other departments (e.g., marketing, production, finance).
    • Hand off final information and details to Production team
    • Process Optimization:
    • Evaluate and refine design workflows to improve efficiency and productivity.
    • Implement best practices in design operations to ensure timely project delivery.
    • Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives within the design team.
    • Process Management:
    • Manage all design activities and all projects as needed
    • Calendar Management
    • Follow up with sample delivery
    • Create clean and scalable workflows and implementing process improvements
    • Ensure consistency and design content accuracy within brand guidelines

    What You Will Bring:

    7+ years of experience managing product design operations at scale

    • Process and efficiency specialist - Passion for planning, tracking, organizing logistics, and documenting
    • Collaboration and stakeholder management skills - Communicates early and often, capable of handling a variety of competing priorities, adept at managing change
    • Great attention to detail and willingness to roll up your sleeves and solve problems with your team
    • The ability to ruthlessly always prioritize and think about impact
    • Understanding of design principles
    • Able to convert complex projects into a clear plan of action

    The pay range for this position is: $80,000 - $105,000 per year
