Job Description:

Our client, a successful childrenswear brand, is seeking a Designer for their growing team! The Designer will be responsible for the design of Baby/Children's Apparel and Sleepwear. The ideal candidate is highly creative with a strong passion to innovate. The role requires creating original designs that bring imagination to life through watercolor hand-painting techniques, while ensuring the clothing is both functional and comfortable for children. This role is in-office 3 days per week and easily commutable by train from NY to the office in Connecticut.

  • The salary range for this role is $90k-120,000 based on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop children's apparel collections from concept/inspiration through production
  • Create unique designs and patterns that reflect brand aesthetic, concept direction, and the business strategy
  • Create original artwork from drawing to hand painting and digital rendering to execute prints
  • Create mood boards, sketches, and technical drawings using design software and Adobe Illustrator
  • Present designs and concepts to senior leadership, incorporating feedback to refine the final collection
  • Deliver product designs with strong execution, achieving goals with speed, agility, and attention to detail
  • Research emerging trends found within art, design, and fashion to stay ahead of market demands while incorporating innovative design concepts
  • Work collaboratively within a dynamic and creative design team
  • Collaborate with Merchandising and Product Development to ensure designs are feasible for production and are within budget and timeline, without compromising design integrity
  • Collaborate and communicate with key partners throughout the design process including Merchandising, Product Development, and Technical Design
  • Present designs during seasonal line reviews with cross-functional team members including Merchandising, Product Development, and Sales
  • Participate in fittings and work with technical designer to ensure proper fit, fabric selection, and construction details of the garment
  • Collaborate with merchant to become aware of seasonal hindsight to evaluate successes and opportunities
  • Communicate regularly with overseas vendors
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the department's calendar, including key events and milestones, while adhering to deadlines
  • Execute design sketches, construction details and initial specs for tech packs
  • Create and accurately manage tech packs to team standards, resulting in successful execution of designs in production
  • Proactively prepare for design representation in printouts and cads for product line reviews
  • Review design submits and samples with strong attention to detail
  • Ensure accuracy in comments and approvals on design submits and samples

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in childrenswear design
  • Knowledge of garment construction, fabric types, and fit standards
  • Experience with CPSC regulations a plus
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects at once
  • Self-motivated and exceptional artistic ability, with watercolor hand-painting skills as a plus
  • Exceptional color sense, skilled in utilizing seasonal color palettes to create modern designs
  • Excellent watercolor painting ability is a plus
  • Experience working with overseas vendors
  • Strong creative and technical skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Overseas travel may be required
  • Self-motivated, possessing the ability to envision a concept and drive it forward from inception to completion
  • Resilience to adapt in the face of obstacles or setbacks, seeing them as opportunities for growth
  • Exceptional attention to detail, showcasing the ability to meticulously review and refine designs with precision
  • Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze issues, generate solutions, and evaluate outcomes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, conveying ideas and feedback with clarity
