JOB SUMMARY The Desktop Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining desktop infrastructure and software solutions to ensure optimal performance and reliability across the organization. They will own tier 3 support troubleshooting and resolution for a wide range of hardware, software, and network-related issues for our desktop infrastructure, and peripherals. The Desktop Engineer will collaborate with other IT teams and departments to gather requirements to implement and support desktop infrastructure related projects and initiatives. They play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures, as well as contributing to the development of best practices and standards for desktop infrastructure management. The Desktop Engineer will provide reporting metrics to ensure actionable intelligence and measurable performance. This role reports to the Manager of Service Desk. Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of hardware, software, and network-related issues for Windows desktops, laptops, and peripherals, both remotely and on-site.
  • Provide exceptional tier 3 technical support to users experiencing issues.
  • Manage and automate software deployments and manage the software deployment toolset.
  • Assist with the deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle of Windows laptops, desktops, thin clients, cloud-based and virtual end user computing services, and peripherals.
  • Design, build, and maintain golden images for all Windows based end user computing, ensuring a standardized and secure environment.
  • Monitor systems for performance, security, and compliance, and take proactive measures to address any issues or risks.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to implement and support projects, upgrades, and deployments.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents or emergencies as needed.
  • Document technical solutions and maintain clear records for future reference.
  • Remain current with industry trends, advancements, and security threats related to Windows desktop technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge and administration of Windows operating systems (e.g., Windows 10, 11).
  • Familiarity with macOS operating systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Experience with software deployment tools and methodologies (e.g., Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), Sysprep, Windows Autopilot, SCCM, Group Policy).
  • Proven experience with desktop virtualization technologies (VMware, Hypervisor).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell or other scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based desktop environments (e.g., AWS WorkSpaces).
  • Strong understanding of desktop security principles and best practices, including endpoint protection, patch management, internet security gateway, web conferencing, and encryption technologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products (web and desktop versions).
  • Familiarity with LAN, WAN, and wireless networking technologies.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and interact professionally with end-users.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consistently maintains a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. (physical requirement).
  • Ability to work five days per week at our office located in Tampa, Florida.
Education:
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a desktop engineer, similar role in an organization with 300+ employees with a strong focus on Windows systems.
  • Certifications in CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft 365 Certified Endpoint Administrator Associate, Azure Administrator Associate, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Associate (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
