JOB TITLE: DESKTOP ENGINEER / End User Computing Support: Job Overview: A Desktop Engineer is a professional who oversees providing technical support and assistance to an organization's end-users or clients. Responsibility is to maintain and troubleshoot desktop computing equipment such as PCs, laptops, peripherals, and software applications. Key Responsibilities:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline is desired, however appropriate job experience may be considered.
  • Certifications in desktop support or similar sectors, such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), will be useful.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work both alone and as part of a team are required.
  • Outstanding communication and customer service abilities.
  • Knowledge of numerous operating systems and software programs (e.g., Windows, macOS).
  • Managing user tickets for hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Responding to client support requests.
  • Contacting clients to find out the nature of the problem.
  • Traveling to the client's location or connecting via a remote link.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Installing and maintaining hardware and computer peripherals.
  • Installing and upgrading operating systems and computer software.
  • Troubleshooting networking and connection issues.
  • Advising on software or hardware upgrades.
  • Providing basic training in computer operation and management.
  • Completing job reports and ordering supplies.
Skills and Experience:
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems, hardware, software, and networking is required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Linux, and Mac OS environments.
  • Knowledge of SaaS (Software as a Service) and other software hosting protocols.
  • Understanding of sophisticated technological capabilities such as programming or network security.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • A good problem-solving and critical-thinking ability.
  • Capable of working both individually and in groups.
  • Customer service that is timely, friendly, and professional.
