THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLEDSummary: The Detective will collaborate with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, interview witnesses and suspects. When compiling reports, the Detective will explore all avenues and defenses. He/she must be focused on serving and protecting the community and meticulously gather and preserve evidence. Experience in public speaking, dealing with the public and media is greatly encouraged.* 1. The Detective will be responsible for investigating cases assigned by the Chief County Detective and/or the District Attorney independently or as part of a team, and act as the liaison between the law enforcement agency in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred and the District Attorney's Office.* 2. He/she must be able to coordinate assigned investigations, advise officers on issues regarding the investigations when requested, provide assistance on the investigations when required and assist prosecutors in preparation for trial.* 3. He/she must collaborate with Assistant District Attorneys to evaluate and prepare cases for court as well as assist any Assistant District Attorney with his/her cases, as assigned by the Chief County Detective.* 4. The Detective must be familiar with search and seizure laws and proficiency in report writing and review.* 5. The Detective must be able to execute search and arrest warrants; prepare, review and evaluate reports; and locate witnesses when requested.* 6. The Detective is responsible for working with local, state or county law enforcement on extradition of relevant parties.* 7. He/she must be able to interview suspects and witnesses.* 8. He/she must be able to testify at hearings and trials and provide assistance to law enforcement officers who are less experienced on how to testify.* 9. It is essential for the Detective to have a great working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.* 10. The Detective must attend community outreach events when requested by the District Attorney, prepare press releases and may be required to attend and/or conduct press conferences when necessary. He/she may also be asked to represent the District Attorney and/or Deputy District Attorneys in meetings and/or at conferences.* 11. The Detective must be able to provide training to less experienced officers and work closely with the prosecutors of the District Attorney's Office.* 12. The Detective must be able to conduct surveillance as part of his/her investigatory abilities.* 13. Additional responsibilities are at the discretion of the District Attorney.* 1. Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment with the ability to multitask;* 2. Knowledge of office technology: Microsoft Office Products-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, dictation for both microcassettes and CD transcriber machine, copy machine, scanners;* 3. Ability to gather, organize and analyze information;* 4. Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions;* 5. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, which includes answering and returning emails and phone messages;* 6. Proficient knowledge of modern investigative techniques and legal processes;* 7. Proficient knowledge of applicable laws;* 8. The ability to conduct trainings and presentations to law enforcement officials and the community;* 9. The ability to do presentations/public speaking for large and small groups as well as the ability to communicate with the media if needed;* 10. Proficiency with firearms and ability to carry firearms and tasers;* 11. Must remain current on MPOETC Certifications; and* 12. A neat and professional appearance.* 1. Minimum of seven (7) years investigative experience, experience in the investigation of cases including, but not limited to, homicides; sexual assaults, child abuse, and narcotics;* 2. Must be Act 120 Certified or equivalent;* 3. Must maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications;* 4. Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License of the applicable class; and* 5. Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check, Childline and FBI Clearances.No application will be accepted in instances where the applicant has any pending criminal charges filed against him/her, other than minor traffic violations, or domestic violence complaints and/or PFAs in this or any other jurisdiction.
