Skilled in the operation of job specific tools and equipment.DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES:
- Investigates all crimes assigned.
- Record progress of investigation.
- Updates regularly to immediate supervisor about the progress of their investigations and requests additional instructions when further progress appears impossible.
- Communicates with the complainant and/or victim periodically to apprise them of the state of the investigation
- Assist other investigators and officers with their cases.
- Questions witnesses, victims, and suspects to determine factual material and provide evidence of leads.
- Interviews and interrogates individuals, or observe persons and establishments, to prove or disprove information.
- Obtain facts and/or statements from victims, complainants, witnesses, and accused persons.
- Record interviews.
- Directs activities at crime scenes.
- Examine crime scenes to obtain clues, protect and collect evidence, such as loose hairs, fibers, clothing, or weapons.
- Preserve, process and analyze items of evidence.
- Report, note, mark, video and photograph location of objects found, such as footprints, tire tracks, bullets and bloodstains and take measurements of the scene.
- Ensures that photographs and fingerprints of all persons arrested who are charged with violations are included in the records.
- Provide testimony as a witness in court.
- Obtains training in new crime fighting techniques.
- Participate or assist in raids and arrests.
- Participates in community events.
- Does related work as directed.
- Perform patrol duties when necessary or assigned.
- Conforms to the oral and written policies of the Freeport Police Department.

- Ability to lift objects, bending, stooping, crawling, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Ability to operate, maneuver and/or steer equipment and machinery requiring simple, but continuous adjustments, such as squad car, restraint devices, computer terminal, first aid equipment, and cameras.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as data entry.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms sound and odors associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
- Emergency or non-traditional work hours will be necessary.
- Ability to work under pressure with numerous distractions while maintaining good ethics and public service skills in adverse circumstances.
