This job was posted by : For more information, please see: \$2500 Sign On Bonus, Longevity Pay, Performance Bonus Each Quarter, Employee Paid Meal Program.Job Description: A Detention Officer performs responsible work in operating a twenty-four hour a day County/City detention facility in accordance with the established procedures and requirements outlined in federal/state laws and Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority and the Oklahoma Department of Health regulations and guidelines. Duties include: taking custody of prisoners from arresting officers; booking prisoners into the Detention Center by completing required documentation and forms; fingerprinting prisoners; verifying the identification of persons in custody and checking for outstanding warrants; transporting prisoners to and from state facilities and other law enforcement agencies; escorting prisoners to and from court and processing necessary paperwork; handling video arraignment court sessions for prisoners; and bonding out prisoners according to established guidelines. A Detention Officer is also responsible for the security and welfare of prisoners, which involves providing meals and dispensing medicine, as well as maintaining the security of the Detention Center. Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or a GED and a minimum of one years detention officer/ corrections officer/sworn police officer experience OR successful completion of the 5-week structured training program for a Detention Officer Trainee. Transport Assignment: Incumbents are required to be CLEET-certified police officers and must complete and maintain firearms qualifications as required by CLEET and the Oklahoma County Detention Center Training Division. Detention Officer Job Responsibilities: Must have a VALID Driver License Complete/pass a background check Complete Detention Academy training (academics and physical training i.e. defensive tactics, OC Spray, etc.) 5 weeks in duration Maintain inmate security and safety (direct and indirect supervision) Prevent inmate escapes Escorting inmates to various locations within and outside of the facility Provide welfare checks and sight checks of inmates Maintain facility documents, logs, and search inmates and the facility for unauthorized items (contraband) Resolve inmate fights Provide medical attention to inmates (i.e. CPR) when needed Deliver meals, clothing, and other approved items to inmates Inspect mail when required Ability to work in a loud and sometimes chaotic environment Available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, or other special shifts Stand or sit for extended periods Lift, squat, bend, and climb stairs
