Job Description:

The Development Associate will:

  • Research grants, write and submit grant proposals and reports.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to serve as the critical link to donors, funders, and the general community in support of SEADC's mission.

    Responsibilities

    Grant Research and Writing (40%)

    • Research potential funders and build relationships with existing and past funders.
    • Draft grant proposals, including narratives, applications, and budget; compile supporting materials and coordinate grant submissions.
    • Draft and submit reports to foundations and corporate funders.
    • Perform other writing and editing tasks as needed to support SEADC's fund development plan.

    Special Events (30%)

    • Assist Executive Director with planning, tracking revenue and expenses, and developing event programming and strategies to meet fundraising goals.
    • Collaborate with Accountant in developing project budgets.
    • Draft sponsorship and in-kind donation packages for annual gala event.
    • Coordinate sponsorship outreach and billing in partnership with Accountant.
    • Work with production team to ensure smooth day-of event operations.
    • Assist Senior Leadership, Human Resources, and external Consultant with coordinating volunteer and staff assignments for the day-of event and in the lead-up to the event.
    • Serve as initial point of contact for special event-related communications.
    • Collaborate with marketing vendors and contractors to develop collateral, email, social media, website updates, and other event marketing efforts.

    Individual Donor Cultivation and Solicitation (30%)

    • Assist with annual end-of-the-calendar year (Q2-FY) fundraising campaign via social media and website, including drafting the campaign narrative; collaborate with marketing contractor(s) for campaign dissemination.
    • Collaborate with Executive Director and the Board of Directors to produce an annual SEADC donor appreciation event.
    • Assist in updating individual donor contacts and giving on Salesforce.
    • Assist with drafting compelling e-blasts and social media stories.
    • Write and send monthly donor acknowledgment letters as needed.

    Administration (10%)

    • Use Salesforce to track current and prospective funders, ensuring SEADC has up-to-date data for reporting and other administrative needs.
    • Monitor the progress of submitted proposals.
    • Coordinate and occasionally participate in funder meetings and conversations as an ambassador for SEADC's mission.
    • Prepare materials for meetings with existing and prospective donors and funders.
    • Attend agency-wide meetings, training, and professional development workshops.
    • Position may require some shifts outside of typical business hours.
    Qualifications

    Required Skills and Experience:

    • 1-3 years of professional or volunteer experience in a fundraising position or 1-3 years of professional experience working for a nonprofit organization.
    • Excellent writing skills.
    • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent communication skills, with comfort in public speaking. English fluency required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Experience with data entry and CRM systems, preferably Salesforce.
    • Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams.
    • Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies and participate in the development of new systems by providing feedback.

    Desired Skills and Experience:

    • Ready to begin independent work on at least 50% of the essential duties and responsibilities.
    • Receptive to hands-on support, coaching, and professional development training.
    • Ability to foster and maintain working relationships with prospective and existing donors, community members, alumni, staff, and board of directors.

    Additional Qualities and Requirements:

    • Passion for the organization's mission and values.
    • Participation in events outside typical work hours/office: annual staff strategic planning offsite, annual staff social day, annual gala.
    • Able to work outside of typical business hours as needed.
    • Able to travel locally as needed.
    • Pass fingerprinting background check and TB clearance before start date.
    • Must already be authorized to work in the United States.
