Job Description:

Callanwolde is a community arts center and renowned venue located on a historic 12-acre estate in the heart of metro Atlanta. Our mission is to provide the Atlanta community with premier, accessible arts education, especially to the underserved, while promoting enjoyment of the arts at the historic and inspiring Callanwolde estate.

The Development Director collaborates with all current and potential stakeholders to cultivate new and existing relationships, build a strong revenue pipeline, and ensure systems are in place to optimize Callanwolde's impact in the community.

Position Description:The Development Director is directly responsible for the following:

  • Generating, growing, and managing revenue streams to build a strong revenue pipeline. Implementing a strategic, multi-year fundraising strategy, including strategic planning for capital campaigns.
  • Managing the growth of individual giving and major gifts, planned giving, and periodic capital campaigns.
  • Developing sponsorships, foundation and government grants, in-kind donations, special events, product sales, and other giving programs.
  • Ensuring that a strong volunteer program is in place that meets the organization's needs.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with board members, donors, and volunteers. Leading, managing, and building a development team that is goal-driven, cohesive, and professional.
  • Serving as a member of the senior leadership team, involved in setting high-level organizational strategy and contributing to decision-making.
  • Participate in the creation of the organization's strategic plan as it relates to the resource development function and advancing the Callanwolde's mission.
  • Ensure the culture of Callanwolde is mission-focused and philanthropic.
  • Represent Callanwolde at events, at the discretion of the Executive Director.

Job Conditions:

  • The position is full-time, minimum 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required.
  • This position is classified as exempt.
  • The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and serves on the senior leadership team.
  • This position is subject to a criminal and credit background check and drug and alcohol testing.
  • The Development Director is expected to use discretion and independent judgment in carrying out his/her responsibilities and to represent the organization in a professional, knowledgeable and collegial manner at all times.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in business administration or nonprofit management preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience and a demonstrated successful track record in nonprofit fundraising/development

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with board members, donors, volunteers, and staff
  • Ability to passionately communicate Callanwolde's mission, accomplishments and benefits of its work
  • Ability to articulate and lead a vision and empower team to accomplish their goals
  • Ability to manage a high workload, prioritize multiple competing priorities, create/delegate/execute timelines and workplans, and oversee the work of others
  • Proven ability to recruit a broad range of donors through skilled prospecting, using new and creative techniques
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals from various racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Expertise in leveraging development-related technology solutions
  • Working knowledge and experience with social and digital media
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and an ability to work well under pressure
