Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Development Officer is a vital member of the Office of Advancement and will assist in designing and executing a multifaceted fundraising strategy for the next comprehensive capital campaign for West Virginia Wesleyan College. Effective and strategic relationship building and maintenance will be required for a successful campaign.
Duties and responsibilities include:
* Identify prospective donors, cultivate relationships, and solicit major gifts;
* Work closely with colleagues across campus to ensure alignment of messaging and campaign goals/outcomes;
* Collaborate with the President's Cabinet on effective campaign strategies including major gifts, annual giving, grants, events, sponsorships, and planned giving;
* Assist with the creation of compelling campaign messaging including in-person and virtual presentations, print collateral, social media, online giving, and more, to effectively communicate impact and significance of the campaign;
* Plan, implement, and host campaign events with a variety of constituencies;
* Involve alumni and non-alumni donor friends of all ages, backgrounds, and interests, in targeted campaign appeals;
* Utilize and implement fundraising best practices;
* Assist with Homecoming, Commencement, and other campus-wide events and programs;
* Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the College, including mission, vision, history, and current fundraising and friend-raising priorities; and
* Other duties as assigned and requested by the Vice President for Advancement and President of the College.
This is a full-time, 12-month position with minimum job requirements and skills to include, but not be limited to:
* Bachelor's degree with 5-10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities outlined above;
* proven ability to secure significant contributions to further an organization's mission and purpose;
* proactive with ability to meet firm deadlines and work independently;
* articulate with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
* detailed-oriented with strong organizational skills;
* thorough knowledge and use of personal computers and related software applications, including ability to accurately enter data into a database (familiarity with Blackbaud Raisers Edge preferred);
* ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and diverse communities; and,
* ability to travel and work flexible hours.
