Summary/Objective
RMHC-South Dakota seeks an experienced frontline fundraiser to help lead efforts to systematically target, cultivate and solicit individual, foundation, and corporate donors from the Rapid City and West River South Dakota areas.
The Development Officer will be a key player, adding immediate impact to expanding our development office and major gifts team. The Development Officer's primary responsibility will be to create and plan fundraising events in the Rapid City area, working with the Chief Development Officer to ensure the success of events and soliciting new gifts as we prepare to kick off a capital campaign. You will also build and grow relationships with both new and existing donors/supporters.

Role/Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
• Strategically plan, execute, and evaluate special events. Manage all aspects of events created by the House. This position includes oversight for logistics, budgets, timelines, invitations, collateral, decorations, donations, sponsorships, food and beverage, entertainment, awards, auctions, volunteers, and summary reports, etc. for all events.
• Responsible for connecting the public to Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota through all signature events, ensuring enthusiastic investment in RMHC's mission.
• Secure new donors while systematically deepening engagement, retaining their support, and raising their sights.
• Engage volunteers, including the involvement, identification, training, and support of fundraising volunteers in outreach and solicitation.
• Seeks out and attends third-party events as necessary to ensure brand compliance, event success, and mission awareness.
Responsibilities:
• Personally drive fundraising results through direct solicitations, and by supporting the direct solicitations of staff and volunteers.
• Performs other duties incidental to the work outlined in this position description as requested by the CDO.
• Contributes to RMHC team efforts by maintaining positive, supportive, and flexible working relationships with fellow staff and volunteers in our mutual pursuit of providing comfort and care to families of seriously ill or injured children being served by our facility.
• Open doors to new prospective donors with the capacity to build the major gifts pipeline.
• Support and contribute towards a comprehensive campaign for RMHC South Dakota for an effort that is currently in the planning phase.
• Help implement clear standards for donor targeting, moves management, stewardship, and recognition.
• Assist in the development of materials that tell the RMHC South Dakota story, ensuring that they are regular, timely, impactful, consistent and address the interests of donors
Qualifications & Competencies
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in major gift fundraising and/or large fundraising campaign experience preferred.
• A history of year-over-year fundraising growth and achievement against personal fundraising goals.
• Broad-based knowledge of and experience with various development activities including community fundraising events, planned giving, campaigns, and major gift programs.
• Experience in planned giving and donor communications is a plus.
• Engaging volunteers and staff in the fundraising process.
• A track record as an exceptional communicator, in writing as well as verbally; a good listener and strategist.
• The individual must be an independent, self-starter who has a history of working with little direction and turning conceptual direction into executed strategies.

• Work for this job is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required.
• This position requires standing or walking for extensive periods for major events.
Travel
• Some local/day travel will be necessary for the role.
• Some domestic travel may be required with overnight stays.
