Position Details

The Development and University Relations department at The University of Tampa has an opening for Development Officer, University Initiatives - primary assignments will be to provide coverage for the College of Natural and Health Sciences and College of Social Sciences Mathematics and Education; (then the College of Arts & Letters and the Sykes College of Business). Reporting to the Development Office, this position is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donor prospects in the $25,000 -$100,000 range with an emphasis on University objectives within these colleges and by assigned geographic segmentation for all University initiatives. Areas of support opportunities for donors include scholarships, faculty support and capital projects.

This position reports to the Office of Development and University Relations while collaborating with the leadership of the assigned college Chief Officer on fundraising priorities. Excellent teamwork, reporting and communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

1. Work with the Deans of the Colleges, the VP for Development & University Relations and the Director of Development to actively participate and collaborate in the execution of major gift strategies within a defined portfolio of prospects.

2. Identify major gift prospects, both corporate and individual, through prospect research, giving patterns, and discovery as well as by networking in the community and through our existing leadership groups and auxiliary committees.

3. Qualify major gift prospects by assessing financial and philanthropic capacity.

4. Maintain a working knowledge of academic programs and capital projects within the college specifically and the university generally.

5. Schedule 10 to 12 face-to-face meetings per month with potential donors, qualified prospects and current donors. Goal is to close $1-2M annually in support of college and university initiatives.

6. Create and present proposals for solicitation according to the University's priorities and donor's interests in collaboration with the Office of Development and University Relations.

7. Record and document in department database system, all interactions with donors and prospective donors with an emphasis on timeliness and accuracy.

8. Assist with departmental events as assigned.

9. Lead monthly activity and a prospect review meeting with Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences and Director of Development.

10. Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled Office of Development and University Relations meetings.

11. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree required.

2. Five years' experience as development officer (higher education preferred) or similar transferable skills.

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills required.

4. Ability to travel to an assigned as needed.

5. Ability and willingness to work some weekend and evening hours.

6. Experience working with fundraising databases or similar CRM database software. Raiser's Edge a plus.

7. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

8. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
