Job Summary:

Aptive Resources is seeking experienced Dialysis Registered Nurses (RNs) to support the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The Dialysis RNs will provide comprehensive care to patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) under the supervision of the nurse manager. The role involves coordination and delivery of care in both acute and intensive care settings.

Shifts: Nurses can expect to working hours to be between 0630 to 1900, Monday through Saturday.

Primary Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Coordinate and deliver care to patients with ESRD.
  • Conduct pre-dialysis patient assessments, including obtaining vital signs and assessing vascular access.
  • Perform surveillance on dialysis access for signs of failure or infection.
  • Conduct post-dialysis assessment, document medication administration, assess vascular access condition, and discharge patients when vital signs are stable.
  • Provide patient education related to their medical condition and treatment.

Clinical Procedures:

  • Oversee the preparation of the delivery system, dialysate bath, and dialyzer.
  • Confirm completion of mandatory alarm tests on the dialyzer and equipment.
  • Assess, prepare, and cannulate patients vascular access using sterile techniques.
  • Administer dialysis-related intravenous and oral medications as prescribed.
  • Perform surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment.
  • Conduct treatments and diagnostic tests such as blood sugar testing.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Review physician orders and patient records prior to dialysis.
  • Document findings of patient assessments, interventions, and significant changes in patient condition.
  • Counsel patients on and administer vaccines per protocols.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement activities.

Professional Standards:

  • Maintain skills necessary for regional heparinization, blood sample storage, and dialysis equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests, medications, and infection control protocols.
  • Adhere to national guidelines and facility protocols for immunization of dialysis patients.

Emergency Response:

  • Provide assistance in emergency situations.
  • Respond appropriately and lead in improving patient care and maintaining standards of care.

Leadership:

  • Provide charge nurse responsibilities as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and data collection for the dialysis units Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan.
  • Work closely with the dialysis team and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted RN license from any state in the United States.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience performing hemodialysis on hospitalized patients in an acute setting. Experience with dialysis of patients in an intensive care unit setting. Must have worked within the last six months in a dialysis setting.
  • Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE. Bachelors Degree in Nursing or related field, or a Masters Degree in Nursing or related field is highly preferred.
  • Ability to complete and successfully pass any required government background check
Desired Qualifications:
  • Completion of the Electrocardiogram Course.
  • Familiarity with the Gambro Dialysis Machine.
