The Diesel Technician will perform mechanical repairs, maintenance, overhauls, and rebuilds of heavy-duty trucks and other related equipment.Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions or damage
- Perform all mechanical repairs, maintenance, overhauls, and rebuilds of heavy-duty trucks and other related equipment
- Test drive vehicles and test components and systems, when applicable
- Use equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices
- Use electronic test equipment to locate and correct malfunctions in fuel and emissions control systems
- Inspect belts, hoses, steering systems, brakes, fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas for additional repairs needed
- Test electronic computer components to ensure that they are working properly
- Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
QualificationsEducation/Training or Experience:
- High School graduate or GED required
- Diploma from Technical College or equivalent experience
- Some computer skills required
- 1-2 years experience in heavy-duty truck repair preferred
