JOB TITLE: Diet ClerkDEPARTMENT: NUTRITION SERVICESEXEMPT FROM OVERTIME: NoJOB SUMMARYThe Diet Clerk works closely with Nutrition Services Staff to provide appropriate meals to patients following closely thephysician diet orders and the information provided by the dietitians related to patient food preferences. Primaryresponsibilities include providing nutrition care to individual patients, in accordance with physician orders, JointCommission standards, Health System and departmental policies. Acts as a liaison between patients and NutritionServices and provides functional guidance to Dietary Hostesses as appropriate. Provides nutrition education packets onweekends for patients being discharged. Is knowledgeable about general and specific dietary limitations and seeks advicewhen there are questions. The Diet Clerk fulfills these duties to ensure continuity and quality of care, which fosters allpatients and their families' best interests and well-being.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience/Physical Requirements:Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to10 lbs with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.Strong communication skills to communicate effectively withpatients/families, physicians, and other Mon Heath System employees. Follows through by checking and verifyinginformation in CIS as appropriate. Utilizes age-specific menu modifications and meal selections for patients and incorporates into themenus as appropriate.Communicates with dietitians regarding patient care. Understands the dietitians directives in thepatient card file. Diet Clerk visits a minimum of 10 patients during scheduled meal rounds. The PM Diet Clerk completes 1 test tray during weekends scheduled to work. Demonstrates competency in the use of CIS pertinent to the diet clerks within the hospital. Diet Clerk ensures patient medical information is kept private (i.e. exiting CIS when computer isunattended). Completes ALL required documentation related to diet tracking. Includes all meal counts, MonKidscounts, NPO, late trays, and discharges. Provides support and assistance to the trayline as needed.Nutrient Analysis/CBORD OperationDemonstrates appropriate level of modified diet knowledge through appropriate use of menus andfoods offered to patients. Demonstrated the ability to adjust patient menus correctly according to diet limitations as defined bythe diet manual, the patient diet orders and by request of the dietitian. Demonstrates ability to accurately calculate calorie count information on patient menus usingestablished guidelines. Makes changes to the patient card file to reflect patient preferences. Ensures patient preferences areon patient meal tickets. Ensures that calorie counts begin the day they are ordered. Prints all reports promptly; notifies all necessary employees of an expected delay.Patient Customer Service StandardsEffectively responds to patient problems and customer complaints. Demonstrates courtesy and politeness at all times when answering the phone. Efficiently responds to nursing requests with a positive and courteous attitude. Develops a rapport with nursing staff and other employees on patient floors. Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and courteous behavior toward patients and co-workers.Performs Other Duties as RequiredAttends all mandatory department meetings and completes all departmental in-services. Attends 10 out of 12 patient services meetings and completes patient services in-services. Completes all required competency assessments on time. Willingly accepts departmental changes related to patient services. Assists in achieving compliance with Joint Commission standards. Supports and promotes the organizations infection control, safety, risk management andcustomer/guest relations programs.
