Salary: $58,242.08 - $79,046.24 AnnuallyLocation : High Point, NC 27260Job Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 8888Department: Police Opening Date: 11/11/2024Closing Date: ContinuousJob DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the Property Crimes Supervisor, the Digital Forensics Examiner would be conducting and documenting computer and cellular telephone forensic examinations. Examiners in this position would process a wide variety of computer systems and digital media that are needed to assist in criminal investigations. The Examiner will also be expected to maintain the security and integrity of evidence stored in the Digital Forensics Unit. The examiner will collect, store, and maintain digital evidence in accordance with established protocol. Accurate detailed reports will be required to be written to support the case. The examiner will be called to testify in Court on an as needed basis. The examiner will make sure that appropriate certifications and licenses are maintained. Essential Tasks
- Acquires and maintains the ability to utilize up-to-date technology and tactics to investigate and examine complex activities using both software and hardware forensic tools.
- Maintains computer and lab equipment and troubleshoots with or without vendor assistance.
- Obtains and maintains verification in relation to the position of a digital forensics' examiner.
- Possess additional knowledge and skills and certifications to qualify them as an expert in the field of computer/digital forensics
- Provide guidance, advice, and direction to Police Officers, Detectives, Supervisors, and Command staff in relation to digital forensics including on-scene assistance during search warrant executions.
- Attend continuing education courses as needed to maintain certifications
- Ability to attend trainings both in and out of state as needed.
- Assist officers and detectives with the proper collection of digital media.
- In a forensically sound manner, collect, preserve, analyze/examine, and report regarding evidence from electronically stored media; restores recoverable deleted data/files; access password-protected and secured files; prepares reports and provides testimony in judicial proceedings.
- Maintain security and integrity of evidence and devices stored in the digital forensics lab.
- Ability to work varying hours as needed.

QualificationsQualifications
- An associate's degree in digital Forensics, Cyber Security, Network Forensics, Computer Forensics, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field and/or at least 2 years of work experience in digital forensics.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with an understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality.
- Requires a high degree of computer literacy (including python scripting, PowerShell, encryption, binary, and hexadecimal)
- Requires experience in data analysis using various industry tools and software
- Requires the ability to effectively communicate orally and inwriting ideas/concepts, findings/results, interpretations, and evaluations.The position requires high levels of interaction with patrol and investigative personnel.
- Requires A+ Certification or equivalent coursework or work experience
- The applicant must have a valid driver's license in the state of North Carolina
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's degree in digital Forensics, Cyber Security, Network Forensics, Computer Forensics, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field and 3 at least years of work experience in digital forensics.
- Current industry-recognized vendor-neutral and vendor-specific certifications related to the field of digital forensics (i.e. EnCE, CFCE, CFE, ACE, BCERT, AFT, CMFE, Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner, etc.)
- Familiarity and experience working in a law enforcement environment, including conducting and assisting with digital forensics in complex criminal investigations.
- Ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of search and seizure and rules of evidence.
- Advanced level of proficiency with forensic software that is currently being utilized in the industry.
- Knowledge and proficiency with various computer and mobile operating systems (i.e., Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, etc).
- Experience with the acquisition of CCTV and IP video from a variety of systems
- Experience with interpreting various electronic communication records (i.e. Internet Protocol logs, email records and headers, cellular communication records, global position satellite records, mobile and computer application metadata, etc.)
- Experience preparing evidence for and testifying in court and other judicial proceedings.
- Experience dealing with Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) cases.
- Experience in soldering and removing components from computer boards
- Experience in repairing mobile phones
