Senior Division Overview

The Senior Division provides countywide programs in San Francisco and Alameda, helping older adults remain in the community and age with dignity, security, and a high quality of life. Feltons programs deliver evidence-based treatments and practices, and we strive to hire staff offering culturally and linguistically appropriate services to meet the needs of older adults living in our communities. We specialize in a wide range of mental health and aging support services.

Program Overview

The Tech Squad offers an innovative approach to bringing tech support and broadband access directly to older adults in their communities. The Digital Literacy Training and Tech Support program is an integral part of the SF Connected Technology Labs initiative by the Felton Institute. These labs serve as essential hubs for providing tailored digital literacy training and tech support services to older adults and adults with disabilities in San Francisco. With a focus on inclusivity, the program offers training in multiple languages and covers fundamental digital skills such as computer navigation, online communication, safety practices, and accessing information. Additionally, the program provides tech support services, including assistance with internet connections and device acquisition, ensuring participants have the resources needed to thrive in today's digital age.

Job Summary/Primary Duties

The Digital Literacy Trainer plays a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the SF Connected Technology Labs program by providing high-quality digital literacy services to diverse communities across San Francisco. This position will engage and empower participants to navigate the digital world, ultimately improving their quality of life and independence. The primary duties will include:

  • Design and deliver training sessions that cover a range of digital literacy topics, ensuring that participants receive support in their preferred language.
  • Conducting training sessions on various digital literacy topics, including computer/internet basics, online communications, online safety/security, assistive technology, access to information, and virtual activities.
  • Delivering digital literacy training services to participants at the 1099 Sunnydale Computer Lab and the SF Connected Technology Labs.
  • Assist with scheduling training sessions, managing participant enrollment, and providing support to participants in accessing relevant information and resources online.
  • Assist and support in identifying low-cost internet service options for participants and refer them to additional support services as needed.
  • Communicate and interact with learners, providing translation (most commonly Cantonese) of program materials and interpretation during training sessions and community events.
  • Proficiency in using various digital platforms and tools for effectively delivering training sessions to participants.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual/biliterate in Cantonese, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in delivering digital literacy training, preferably with older adults or adults with disabilities.
  • Possess knowledge of accessibility considerations for individuals with disabilities, adapting training content to meet their specific needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and patience for working with learners of varying skill levels.
  • Technically skilled in navigating and problem-solving internet-enabled devices, including smartphones, tablets (Android and iOS) and laptops.
