Who We Are:

The Animal Legal Defense Fund's mission is to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. The Animal Legal Defense Fund accomplishes this mission by filing high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm, providing free legal assistance and training to prosecutors to assure that animal abusers are held accountable for their crimes, supporting tough animal protection legislation and fighting legislation harmful to animals, and providing resources and opportunities to law students and professionals to advance the emerging field of animal law.

Role Description:

The Digital Media Specialist bears primary responsibility for maintaining content on aldf.org and other subsites, and building emails blasts, online action centers, and online forms as necessary.

How You Will Make a Difference:

Digital Advocacy Platforms (50%):

  • Build and execute online campaigns (including mass emails, online action centers, online forms, SMS, click to call, and social sharing) to assure that all online communications are optimized for conversions, on brand, user friendly, and using best practices for their respective formats.
  • Serve as a final check before sending campaigns and coordinate edits as needed.
  • In cooperation with the Development team, manage online database of supporters, related to segmentation, tagging, list management, best practices, and reporting.
  • Perform database syncing, updates, and analysis as necessary.
  • Utilize reporting systems to track the results of online communications efforts for the Communications team and incorporate data analysis to optimize all digital performance components in online campaigns including open and click-through rates, subscription rates, and other relevant metrics.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and technological developments related to our digital advocacy and communication strategy.

Website (35%):

  • Publish diverse legal and advocacy-driven content on multiple websites, utilizing multiple templates and complex taxonomy.
  • Update webpages on a rolling basis, with information supplied by program departments.
  • Maintain and organize image and video assets in our digital media library.
  • Select, crop, and size photos for the website, following organizational photography standards.
  • Serve as a final check before publishing and coordinate edits as needed.
  • Perform daily maintenance, monitoring, and quality assurance of the website.
  • Analyze and report on website metrics including traffic, downloads, and click rates, leveraging Google Analytics and Tag Manager.
  • Provide insight and advice in team collaborations, with a focus on maximizing posts for use on the web and upholding content quality standards, emphasizing usability and UX, shareability, findability, style, and maintainability.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, technological developments, and UX strategies.

Intranet and Project Management Software (15%):

  • Create Intranet posts as assigned, including uploading and embedding videos, news articles, staff announcements, graphics, and other apps as needed.
  • Develop and execute workflows and automations for the Communications team using project management tools such as Asana.
  • Assist Human Resources with maintaining staff directory, onboarding assets, internal newsletter distribution, and associated tasks.

Requirements

We Are Looking for Candidates With:

Technical:

  • Experience with WordPress required.
  • Experience with an email platform such as EngagingNetworks, MailChimp, etc. required.
  • Experience with Digital Advocacy platforms like EveryAction and Phone2Action preferred.
  • Proficiency in HTML is required.
  • Experience with CSS and JavaScript preferred.
  • Experience with data analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Tag Manager required.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft SharePoint, and Asana a plus.

Professional:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain attention to detail.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, collaborative team environment.
  • Must be goal-oriented, self-motivated, creative, highly-flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Demonstrated interest and passion for digital technology.
  • Background in animal protection and demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Animal Legal Defense Fund preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or other related field. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 3 years of relevant digital media experience may be considered equivalent.

Additional information:

This role is included in a collective bargaining unit that is represented by the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU). Certain terms and conditions of your employment, including wages and benefits, have been negotiated with the Union and are included in a collective bargaining agreement between ALDF and the Union

This is a U.S. based position. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
