Job Description:

The Manager, Digital Post Production position reports to the Assistant Director, Post Production Facilities and will manage the digital post-production facilities on campus, ensuring that all hardware, software, and suggested workflows are up to date in order and capable of hosting robust and academically impressive post-production classes. This is an important role that requires technical expertise, and the ability to support students and faculty working with Non-Linear Editing (NLE) software.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Manage, operate, and maintain the Digital Post Production facilities in support of the VMA curriculum.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise and support for students and faculty in all levels of VMA coursework, answering workflow-related and technical questions as they arise.
  • Communicate as necessary with faculty to understand the needs of the curriculum, researching and implementing new hardware, software, and workflows to meet these needs.
  • Research upgrades and replacements to maintain compatibility with emerging operating systems and hardware.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and user errors in software used, including, but not limited to, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Davinci Resolve, and Avid Media Composer.
  • Troubleshoot hardware in the Mac Pro labs and suites, including but not limited to, Blackmagic UltraStudio hardware, broadcast monitors, speakers and audio equipment, Wacom tablets, and a variety of peripheral equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and provide assistance to the Emerging Media Lab students and faculty when the EML manager is unavailable.
  • Hire, train, and oversee the daily operations of a team of student employees to aid in the support of classes, equipment checkouts, and basic troubleshooting measures.
  • Maintain and update the Post Production website, ensuring that content is up to date, creating new articles based on frequently asked questions in order to best support students and faculty, creating video tutorials to augment popular existing articles, and updating templates.
  • Coordinate and organize Screenings at the end of each semester for MFA thesis projects, BA thesis projects, BA Capstone projects, and other VMA courses that opt to screen in the Bright Family Screening Room on campus, serving as liaison between all parties involved in screenings.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Film or Video Post Production required
  • 1-3 years of experience in a professional digital post-production environment required, including experience or training in raining in various NLE software, video codecs, and exhibition formats
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • Advanced knowledge of Non-Linear Editing software and professional editing workflows and the ability to provide related support
  • Ability to support 4K+/Proxy workflows, motion graphics, color correction, and other XML/AAF based workflows
  • Ability to support a variety of video codecs in software, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid Media Composer, and DaVinci Resolve
  • Advanced understanding of Mac OS as well as familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of screenings and exhibition formats and Digital Cinema Packages and the ability to encode and prepare screening and exhibition files in a variety of formats
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, website design, UX, and UI
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through on tasks and requests
  • Ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
