QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE- Bachelor's degree in history, library science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience working in an archival or library setting, with knowledge of best practices for preservation and cataloging. The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of experience with digital collections in a related field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following.
- Ability to independently assess and problem solve the needs of a small archive.
- Knowledge of metadata standards and frameworks for archival description and preservation (DACS, EAD, Dublin Core).
- Strong research skills and knowledge of African American history and culture. The candidate should have a deep understanding of the historical and cultural significance of HBCUs.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with archival management software (e.g. Omeka), digital asset management systems, and other relevant technologies.
- Experience with digitization projects at various scales.
- Ability to live and work in a small, rural location.
- Ability to handle materials that may be fragile, rare, or valuable.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
