We seek a Direct or Personal Care Aide (DCA/PCA) to help us care for our elderly patients. In this position, you will be primarily responsible for helping patients with daily tasks. This may include helping patients move or get dressed, administering medications, or feeding patients. While these credentials are important, it is just as crucial that you have specific experience working with elderly patients. You must also have good physical stamina, a caring and patient personality, and excellent communication skills.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse
- Participate in and receive resident reports at the start/end of the shift.
- Provide personal/nursing care in accordance with a resident care plan.
- Facilitate and conduct activities.
- Monitor & respond to resident requests and needs in a dignified and respectful manner.
- Monitor and record vital signs, such as blood pressure and temperature
- Maintain a clean and pleasant environment for residents.
- Administer medications as directed by healthcare professionals
- Assist in preparing residents for various activities within and outside the center.
- Assist with tube feeding and catheter care
- Ensure that all resident care is provided in a dignified and respectful manner.
- Perform basic nursing care procedures for residents as required.
- Assist with mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Create a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents and ensure their needs are met.
- Ensure that residents food service needs are met promptly and compassionately.
- Maintain resident documentation records for activities of daily living, restorative programs, and resident-specific forms.
- Maintain and work within the established departmental, center, and corporate policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Attend and participate in scheduled training, educational classes, and orientation programs to maintain certification and enhance the quality of care.
- Perform other related activities as assigned or requested.
- Document patient information accurately and timely in electronic health record systems

SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and basic healthcare procedures
- Ability to administer medications accurately and safely
- Experience with tube feeding and catheterization procedures
- Familiarity with senior care/skilled nursing principles and practices
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems (e.g. Cerner, PCC, EPIC, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to caregiving
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience in nursing home or senior care setting is a plus
- Knowledge of working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus
CNA REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED certificate or higher
- DCA/PCA Certification
- BLS/CPR Certificate
- COVID-19 Vaccination
- Experience working with elderly individuals
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent physical stamina
