Job Summary:The direct care worker supervises residents, using reasonable actions to ensure the safety and well-being of each resident, effectively communicate department and programmatic behavioral expectations and limitations to residents, and maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures and established state and federal standards and requirements. Performs all functions and duties relative to Sanctuary of Hope as assigned by the Director / Licensed Child Care Administrator Superintendent, Sanctuary of Hope Executive Committee, and Senior Pastor.Job Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Display positive role modeling and leadership for residents by exhibiting skills and principals taught in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) training. Model culturally and socially desired behaviors while explaining the behaviors to residents to facilitate learning and replication of the behaviors.
  • Provide sustained and uninterrupted direct supervision of the residents from the start of the assigned shift until relieved. Providing appropriate supervision at all times including monitoring environment and mass media (movies, TV, radio, written materials) for appropriate content.
  • Ensure residents, infants, and toddlers basic needs are met. Teach residents social, self-help, academic, independent living, problem solving, personal hygiene, financial literacy, and employ-ability skills.
  • Document daily progress and activities completely, accurately and prior to completion of shift. Report serious incidents/injuries as defined in Texas Minimum Standards to the Director within one hour. Plan, participate, and supervise activities for residents in accordance with the daily activity schedule.
  • Implement Sanctuary of Hope's safety protocols including evacuating with residents and other staff in case of an emergency. Provide crisis intervention to residents while maintaining emotional self-control.
  • Adheres to Attendance Policy - Works when scheduled, beginning, and ending work as expected; calls in according to policy; observes policies on break and lunch periods; uses work time appropriately, records all hours worked as instructed. Attend scheduled Sanctuary of Hope and organizational training and staff meetings.
  • Assist as needed in other areas in support of Sanctuary of Hope as assigned by Sanctuary of Hope Administrator/Director.
Education/Requirements:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent. Preferred - 2-year associate degree from accredited program/institution, or two or more years of college-level course work in a related human services field.
  • Required - 1-year related experience and/or training in a related human services field. Preferred - 2 plus years' related experience and/or training in a related human services field.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule; clean criminal background check from appropriate entity; cleared Tuberculosis test results; cleared drug test results; clear driving record from appropriate entity, must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
