Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate.We are currently seeking a full-time Direct Response Associate (DRA) responsible for implementing a calendar of direct response solicitations, primarily via mail and email, to solicit and engage members as well as donors giving < $1,500 (annual fund level). Under general supervision and in collaboration with the department's Membership team, Development Services team and closely with the Marketing & Communications department as well, the DRA delivers consistently high-quality, high-performing messages and products that exemplify the Space Center Houston brand and service values to all members and donors. Creating and managing project calendars and plans that include in-house and vendor collaborators and producers, executing on time and within budget, and also compiling and organizing outcomes, the DRA will contribute to department planning that improves response and maximizes resources, and participate in integration of and tailoring of messages for promotions and solicitations, and occasionally stewardship communications, across diverse channels including phone campaigns, social media and other digital efforts; may provide support for customer services or staff department events, in addition to assisting with invitations, print production and signage. Responsibilities and qualifications are shown below:MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement and maintain calendar of direct response activities, focused on but not limited to mail and email for Membership and Annual Fund solicitations, stewardship communications, and event invites or follow-up.
  • Draft, edit, customize or mockup copy and design for email, mail, social media and web placement, including solicitations, brochures, confirmations, reminders, stewardship and event communications that reflect the organization's voice; ensure proper use of brand assets and secure appropriate approvals.
  • Create and coordinate project requests, list requests, and uploads of content and data to project management tools; monitor deadlines, check lists for accuracy and deliver lists on time. Some list management inside and outside of the CRM may be required.
  • Compile and organize results and outcomes for all projects; apply data-based solutions to improve results.
  • Provide support and manage tools for planning and documenting annual calendar of direct communications to members, donors and prospects. Update with changes and adjustments as assigned.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the execution of a segmentation strategy for direct response activities, collaborating across the Development team to ensure each channel has an integrated, on brand but clear message space and that the organization maximizes opportunities.
  • Enter and maintain Contact data in the CRM with a high degree of accuracy, including key Relationship Management and Segmentation data, and recording activities and touchpoints from engagement and communications.
  • Review and organize content for websites or online giving tools to optimize philanthropy and engagement.
  • Inventory and organize collateral as assigned, including stationery, invites, giveaways, and brochures.
  • May assist in overseeing calling program calendars and lists for new and renewing members/donors.
  • May support gift acknowledgements or other individual donor correspondence; may draft, edit or create custom letters and maintain department files.
  • Handle general office and customer service tasks including answering telephones, fielding emails, and preparing mailings as needed.
  • Inform key stakeholders of progress toward deadlines and goals.
  • Review own work to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in all Development and Space Center Houston matters.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support events or meet urgent deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, advertising or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two or more years professional experience direct response production or development communications project management, or closely-related work in a nonprofit membership or annual fund organization.
  • Experience writing/editing copy, coordinating design, overseeing reviews, approvals and production for print mail, email, social media, newsletters and/or brochures.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to prioritize and manage time to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to operational changes and constructive feedback.
  • High proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, with professional experience in Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Mail Chimp, Asana, or MS Dynamics CRM in a professional setting preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-departmentally and manage up; experience collaborating with multiple internal and external partners to plan high-quality communications preferred.
  • Proficiency in researching, creating or managing audience segmentation structures and contact lists.
  • Experience supporting or driving continuous improvement; experience A/B testing preferred.
  • Experience evaluating results, applying data-based outcomes to improve future projects, segmentation or messaging.
  • Ability to represent Space Center Houston in a professional and positive manner.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
