Sycamore Services is looking for Direct Support Professionals! (DSP's)

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is dedicated to advancing the agency's mission by providing exceptional support to individuals with disabilities.

This role is essential in helping consumers achieve their personal goals through comprehensive residential support, community involvement, and individualized care.

Job Status: Full-Time/Part-Time

Environment: 10% office, 90% Community/Residential

Department: Day-Community / Residential Services

Reports to: Director of Day-Community Services, Director of Residential Services, Program Coordinator, and Service Coordinator.

Job Duties:

  • Assist persons with disabilities in pursuing their futures and goals through residential support, volunteer opportunities, and community interaction.
  • Assist and support consumers to develop strategies, make informed choices, and follow through on responsibilities.
  • Promote consumer partnership in the design of support services.
  • Provide opportunities for consumers to be self-advocates by encouraging and assisting the consumer to speak on his or her behalf.
  • Honor the choices and preferences of consumers.
  • Safeguard and respect the confidentiality and privacy of individuals supported.
  • Promote human, legal, and civil rights of all people and assist others to understand these rights.
  • Use effective communication skills to build rapport and channels of communication by recognizing and adapting to the range of consumer communication styles.
  • Use terminology appropriately, explaining as necessary to ensure consumer understanding.
  • Maintain collaborative professional relationships with the consumer and all support team members (including family/friends) and follow ethical standards of practice.
  • Assist in the implementation of an individualized plan to achieve specific outcomes derived from consumers' specific preferences, needs, and interests.
  • Assist in the review of the achievement of individualized consumer outcomes.
  • Assist consumers with household management and transportation needs to maximize his or her skills, abilities, and independence.
  • Uphold the agency's mission by promoting teamwork, and mutual respect, and assisting colleagues as needed. Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with consumers, their families, and support team members.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including time/billing records, and submit reports as required by supervisors.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including non-standard hours, to meet the diverse needs of consumers and the organization.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent competency required.
  • 18 Years of age or older.
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities in the community preferred.
  • Excellent people and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work flexible/non-standard hours.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds; upper body leverage strength required.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Proof of Auto insurance is required.
  • Ability to keep accurate documentation.
  • Knowledge of community and community activities preferred.
  • Sit for long periods.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds; upper body leverage strength required.
  • Travel to Sycamore Service locations.
  • Travel to Sycamore Services events.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • See details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
  • See the differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
