Here's What You'll Do:The Personal Assistant supports individual(s) with developmental disability(ies) and mental illness and/or chronic illness. The Personal Assistant supports individuals in life areas such as work, school, other programming, money management, health and wellness, personal safety, behaviors, and activities of daily living (toileting, bathing, personal hygiene) both in the home and in the community. Essential Functions
  • Pick up/drop off individual(s) from/to their home/facility (if necessary) using personal vehicle. Facilitate their departure and arrival for work or daily community integration activities
  • Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support to others such as co-workers and individual(s)
  • Teaches individual life skills such as mobility training, work and community skills as per program
  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, text messaging, or in person
  • Participate, engage, review, and follow in individuals' daily routine(s)/activities as written in his/her Individual Program Plan (IPP)
  • Document all reports and data regarding the individual on time; this includes Daily Activity Log, Task, Analysis, and etc.
  • Report to supervisor(s) and appropriate agencies any Special Incident and suspected resident abuse according to applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintain a positive relationship with individual. This means assisting individual with grooming and self care, and instruct individual in proper behavior at all times
  • Engage and develop community learning (individual/group) activities to achieve individuals' Individual Program Planning (IPP) objectives
  • Attend regular staff meetings and participate in continuing education and trainings
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required
Education and Experience:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least 6 months - 1 year of professional or personal experience in caregiving (Preferred experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illnesses with challenging behaviors)
  • Direct Support Professional Certificate Year 1 & Year 2 and CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention (Preferred or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of hire)
  • First Aid / CPR (Preferred or willing to obtain within 30 days of employment)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a California Driver's License, working vehicle, and auto insurance.
  • Candidates must successfully pass all pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50lbs.
  • Able to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
