Job Summary:

As a Direct Support Professional at Tutelage Residential Services you have the opportunity to help others while building your career. Tutelage Residential Services prides itself in helping people be great and knocking out goals. As a team member you will have the opportunity for training, mentorship, and professional growth. The schedule is casual pool, substitute DSP for shift coverage for vacations, short notice and callouts. Hours vary, locations on the east end- Penn Hills & Monroeville.

In this role, you help individuals maintain a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment which fosters growth and rehabilitation. The Direct Support Professional will build trust through reliability and communication. A solid ability to manage complex behavioral needs with care, respect and knowledge. Overall, providing quality care specific for individual needs and aligned with the Department of Human Services Everyday Lives.

Direct Support Professional Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the mission statement and vision statement of the organization
  • Have fun through coordinated community activities for the residents
  • Collaborate with team members to complete site task and improve the way we work through creative input.
  • Educate/ empower individuals to be independent, confident & social
  • Identify and assist in risk, quality and incident management and prevention
  • Adhere to confidentiality of client records and HIPAA requirements
  • Completes all necessary documentation timely.
  • Communicate regularly with team members to ensure continuity of care based on ISP and development of ISP's.
  • Monitors food preparation, ensuring meals are nutritious and properly portioned
  • Implement behavior programs as trained & required
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash/ client funds accurately and honestly
  • Assist/manage individuals specific needs including but not limited to cleaning, grocery shopping and transporting to appointments/activities.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of all individuals with developmental disabilities within the group home.
  • Attend, pass, & administer medication according to the DPW. Meet with individuals (as needed) on an individual basis to discuss concerns
  • Conduct and document monthly fire drills according to ODP procedures
  • Report any consumer (individual) abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) or act of omission
  • Attend required program, meetings and specific trainings
  • Lifting and climbing stairs, as necessary or required.
  • Conduct a safety and inspection walk through daily, complete corrections, if applicable and able, and inform Supervisor/ CEO of any immediate concerns.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Must be able to operate equipment (e.g. wheel chairs, hand trucks). Must be able to exert up to seventy-five pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the care of the individuals that we serve, training will be provided

The Direct Support Professional plays a critical role in the overall success of Intellectual Developmental Disability Residential Services. As natural role models, must have the following personal qualifications:

  • Leads with integrity and exhibits ethical moral behavior
  • Leads with empathy and has the ability to de-escalate and redirect behaviors appropriately
  • Enjoys building collaborative relationships and rapport through trust and clear communication.
  • Basic word processing skills and experience with Microsoft Office products and email usage skills.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

  • A High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 1 year of Human Service work experience (preferable)

Other Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18
  • Physical exam and TB Mantoux test
  • Not be disqualified on any of the local, state or federal exclusion lists
  • Have an acceptable child and criminal history, no disqualifying violations
  • Autonomy - ability to work without immediate supervision
  • Must possess a valid PA Driver's License w/ an acceptable driving history
  • Must be/ or able to be certified to administer medication
  • Digital management skills (phone, text, tablet etc)
  • Autonomy - ability to work without immediate supervision
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
