Job Description:
Position SummaryThe Direct Support Professional (Float) is responsible for providing direct care for clients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a supported living or community-based environment. This includes assisting leadership with the coordination of staff activities, the whereabouts of all clients under their supervision, and ensuring that required documentation (i.e., client notes, community-based notes, administration records, client financial records, and vehicle logs, etc.) is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Incumbents are on call twenty-four hours a day and must respond in a timely manner to unexpected events and/or emergencies with clients under their care.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organizes and directs the care of clients, including, but not limited to transportation, maintenance of household inventory, menu planning and preparation, etc.
  • Monitors and organizes activities in accordance with Individual Support Plans and delivery of client care plans under the direction of the Special Needs and Medical Special Needs.
  • Reviews daily service delivery logs and notes detailing client activities supporting the approved Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Responsible for adhering to all policies & procedures regarding mandatory reporting requirements, attending mandatory training and reporting all suspicious & inappropriate behavior.
  • Take actions as appropriate to ensure Standards of Care are met and participates in quality improvement processes.
  • Ensure maintenance request forms are completed and submitted to RSD as needed, and that requests are completed.
  • Complete Home Visit Guide at the request of the RSD and submit to RSD.
  • Availability to cover variable shifts and locations at the discretion of the RSD/ Area Director.
  • When worked hours are thirty (30) or below, the DSP-Float may work in the office to ensure forty (40) hours at the discretion of the RSD/Area Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid state driver's license
  • 1 year of IDD / caregiver experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of proper personal hygiene practices.
  • Ability to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job.
  • Ability to complete required documentation both electronically and on paper.

  • Sitting is 20% of work time.
  • Standing is 50% of work time.
  • Walking is 70% of work time.
  • Bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching, and kneeling is 60% of work time.
  • Grasping and finger/hand manipulation is 40% of work time.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to operate computer, facsimile, copier, shredder, and calculator.
  • A home setting, varying degrees of background noise, standard home ventilation & lighting and occasional temperature fluctuations may be found in the work environment.
Travel
  • Travel up to but not limited to fifty (50) percent of the time.
