Direct Support Professional

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will be responsible for the health, safety and well-being of Y.E.S. The Arc members residing within our Residential Program. The DSP will provide support in a compassionate and positive manner, assisting them in achieving their life's goals. Above all, the Direct Support Professional must be dedicated to every aspect of their position in accordance with Y.E.S. The Arc's philosophy that all people are capable of growth and learning and that Y.E.S. The Arc's objective is to provide training and opportunities that will maximize growth towards the greatest independence possible for each member served. The position reports directly to the Residential Supervisor and is also overseen by the Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • The ability to work flexible hours.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License in order to operate agency vehicles.
  • Must possess and maintain a clean 39-month driving record (no major traffic violations and not more than two minor traffic violations) in order to operate agency vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry 35 lbs; stand and sit for extended periods; bend at the waist and knees; kneel for extended periods.
  • Must possess the ability to exercise restraint and self-control in potentially volatile situations, including, but not limited to, being confronted verbally and/or physically in a threatening or aggressive manner by the people receiving support.

Some of the Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor the health and well-being of individuals, reporting any changes or concerns to appropriate healthcare professionals and documenting observations accurately.
  • Demonstrate respect and promote choice for all of the members we support.
  • Act as an appropriate role model and support members in using appropriate language, appearance, dress, manners and respect.
  • Support members in their daily living and assist them with their daily living skills.
  • Assist individuals in activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, and medication management, promoting independence whenever possible.
  • Implement behavioral support plans as directed, utilizing reinforcement and effective communication skills to address challenging behaviors.
  • Be prepared to handle and de-escalate crisis situations using approved techniques and following established protocols, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals.
  • Review and complete Communication Logs and Medication Administration Record.
  • Implement and document member objectives and/or behavioral plans according to the member's Planning Document, as well as Health Tracking, Cleaning Log, Behavior Event Records, and all other accompanying data collection sheets for each member in your care before the end of each shift worked.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 - $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

No Experience Required

  • Working with people with developmental disabilities: 1 year (Preferred)
