Direct Support Professional Position Summary:
The DSP provides individuals with development and/or behavioral impairments assistance in their daily living activities to help them live as independently and safely in the community as possible.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Always sets positive examples for residents/individuals.
- Adheres to the person-centered plans, and behavior plans as written.
- Provides opportunities throughout the day to help individuals meet their goals.
- Provide quality of care and a safe and healthy setting free from harm while upholding the rights of all individuals. Creates a space of trust and relationship with all individuals.
- Protects individuals from abuse and/or neglect and immediately reports any occurrence to the appropriate entities.
- Always maintains and protects the confidentiality of individuals.
- Always follows and upholds all house guidelines.
- Assists individuals with daily living activities (hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, cleaning, home care, etc. as needed) by hands on assistance and/or reminding and teaching.
- Provides opportunities for community access, social, and recreational activities by monitoring, accompanying, and providing behavioral cues as needed.
- Documents activities on required logs and records.
- Administers medication if needed and in accordance with requirements.
- Cook's meals as necessary for individuals based on food specifications, diets, food exchanges and documentation.
- Understands the process for food supply and storage.
- Transports and attends appointments with individuals as needed.
Requirements:
- Not been excluded from participation in Federal Healthcare Programs.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Can legally work in the United States.
- Able to prevent transmission of disease.
- Able to communicate expressively and receptively.
- In good standing with the law.
- Able to perform basic first aid procedures.
- Valid driver's license (if required to transport individual) or State ID.
- Must complete all required training.
