Job Title: Director of Technology - AutomationLocation: Pompano Beach, FLDepartment: ProductionReports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)Position Summary:The Director of Technology will lead the development and implementation of advanced automation technologies for a company specializing in the manufacturing of products for law enforcement and military professionals. This role will focus on driving innovation, operational efficiency, and cost-effective production processes by implementing cutting-edge automation solutions. The Director will be responsible for identifying opportunities for automation, overseeing the design and deployment of automated systems, and ensuring that technology initiatives align with the company's goals of quality, safety, and performance.Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership in Automation:Provide leadership and vision for automation strategy, driving initiatives that enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce manual processes, and improve product quality.
- Automation Project Management:Oversee the implementation of automation projects across manufacturing facilities, from concept to execution, ensuring on-time delivery, budget compliance, and performance optimization.
- Technology Roadmap Development:Create and maintain a comprehensive technology roadmap focused on introducing and scaling automation technologies such as robotics, AI, IoT, and machine learning for enhanced production processes.
- Collaboration with Manufacturing Teams:Work closely with production, quality, IT and engineering teams to integrate automation solutions seamlessly into existing manufacturing processes.
- Process Improvement:Continuously evaluate and improve automation systems to reduce lead times, minimize waste, increase throughput, and enhance overall product quality, ensuring compliance with industry standards, including military and law enforcement specifications.
- Vendor and Partner Management:Identify and work with third-party automation solution providers, managing relationships with technology partners to source, develop, and implement advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Data-Driven Decision Making:Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to assess the impact of automation on production efficiency, safety, and costs, providing regular reports to the executive leadership team.
- Team Development and Leadership:Build and lead a cross-functional team of engineers and technology professionals focused on automation, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Compliance and Safety:Ensure that all automation technologies meet the regulatory requirements for manufacturing in the defense sector and adhere to safety standards in both law enforcement and military gear production.
- Budgeting and Financial Oversight:Manage the technology budget for automation projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions that provide a high return on investment and align with business objectives.
- Innovation and Industry Trends:Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in automation, applying innovative solutions to the company's manufacturing processes.
Qualifications:
- Education:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field. Advanced technical certifications in automation or robotics are a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in manufacturing technology, with at least 5 years in automation-focused roles.
- Proven leadership experience managing large-scale automation projects in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the ballistics gear, defense, or law enforcement industries.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with integrating technologies such as robotics, AI, IoT, and PLC systems into complex production workflows.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of robotics systems, automated control systems, and industrial automation tools.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM, SCADA systems, and ERP software, particularly in the context of manufacturing automation.
- Expertise in data analytics for production monitoring and optimization.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with diverse teams, including engineering, production, quality, and external vendors.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, particularly in high-pressure and highly regulated environments.
- Comfortable working in multilingual, multi-cultural work environments.
- Fluent English speaking, reading, writing skills are required.Spanish and or Creole language skills will be a plus.
- Other:
- Secret clearance classification eligible.
- U.S. Citizenship required per ITAR
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 6 year's experience within a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) manufacturing contractor environment and familiarity with the application of such contract requirements and deliverables in such environments.
- Hands-on experience with automated testing and quality assurance systems in ballistics gear manufacturing.
