The Director of First Year Studies is a senior-level administrative position reporting to the Associate Provost. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the first-year experience program to enhance first-year students' academic and personal success and facilitate their transition to college life. The Director will develop and implement comprehensive initiatives and strategies that promote student engagement, retention, and timely degree completion. This position oversees the Peer Mentor Coordinator, First-Year Seminar Coordinator and Instructors, Learning Community Program Coordinator, and Summer Bridge Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Develops and implements a comprehensive first year experience program in alignment with the university's mission and goals that includes peer mentoring, first-year seminars, learning communities, and summer bridge programs; Collaborates with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to assess the needs of first-year students and develop initiatives accordingly; Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure academic and social support services for first-year students; Coordinates orientation programs, academic advising, and course registration for incoming students; Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness through data analysis and assessment and make necessary adjustments for continuous improvement; and establishes program goals, objectives, and outcomes, and regularly evaluate and revise programs to ensure effectiveness.
Collaborates with academic departments, student affairs, and other relevant units to ensure alignment and integration of first-year programs with university goals and objectives; Fosters partnerships and maintains open communication with faculty, staff, student leaders, and external stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of first-year programs; and promotes first-year programs and initiatives through outreach and marketing efforts.
Develops and implements assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness and impact of first-year programs; Collects and analyzes data to inform decision-making and identify areas for improvement; Prepares regular reports on program outcomes and accomplishments for the Associate Provost and other stakeholders; and prepares reports and presentations on the progress and outcomes of first-year student initiatives, to be shared with university stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and eight years of appropriate experience in academic or support services field; or master's degree and six years of experience in a related academic or support service's field.
Recommended Competencies
Establish partnerships with faculty to ensure the integration of first-year students within the academic community;
Provide faculty and staff development opportunities related to first-year student success strategies;
Collaborate with departments and academic units to develop and implement a curriculum that supports first-year students' academic progress and transition needs; and
Serves as a resource for faculty and staff regarding best practices in first-year student support and retention.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred); and
Minimum of five years of experience in administering and supervising first-year experience programs or related initiatives.
Anticipated Salary Range
Hiring salary is $90,000.00

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
