About the team and the role:

We're seeking a Director, Accounting Policy Group (APG) to join our outstanding team in Austin, Texas! This critical role requires a deep understanding of US GAAP and SEC regulations to ensure accurate financial reporting for complex transactions and new accounting standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for comprehensive accounting issues, draft technical memos, and maintain compliance with a broad range of accounting standards. This position offers the chance to collaborate closely with senior leadership, auditors, various functions, while supporting the company's growth. You'll provide technical mentorship to numerous teams and work cross-functionally as a leader and a key member of the Accounting organization. This position reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer!

What you will accomplish:

  • Technical Accounting Expertise:
    • Lead the evaluation of complex transactions under U.S. GAAP, including but not limited to ASC 606, 842, 705-20, 280, 350, 450-20, 810, 820, and 815.
    • Support compliance with SEC regulations (e.g., Regulation S-X, S-K) and prepare supporting documentation for financial reporting.
  • Policy Development and Governance:
    • Develop and communicate clear accounting policies to maintain strong governance.
    • Collaborate with teams to ensure alignment and understanding of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Technical Research and Advisory:
    • Conduct in-depth research and apply accounting standards, detailing findings in comprehensive technical memos.
    • Provide expert advice on non-routine accounting matters, including detailed assessments and conclusions.
  • Team Development and Training:
    • Mentor and train team members on complex accounting topics.
    • Develop and deliver training programs to improve the accounting knowledge of finance and accounting teams.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Optimally communicate technical accounting insights to senior management, auditors, and other stakeholders.
    • Stay updated on emerging accounting standards and SEC regulations to maintain compliance and inform stakeholders.

What you will bring:

  • 15+ years of experience in public accounting and/or corporate technical accounting, with a strong focus on US GAAP and SEC reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Active or inactive CPA certification required.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Proven ability to design and implement new policies.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of mentoring and developing team members.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
