Position Summary

The Director of Data platform coordinates the effective use of data and analytic assets, services, and products for NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Columbia. The director consults with tri-institutional senior administrative and clinical leadersto define information requirements, analytics services, and deliverables to meet the needs of the enterprise. The director will collaborate proactively with internal and external analytics teams, data engineering teams, vendors, and other IT departments to support data-driven initiatives. The director will design, build, and maintain data pipelines and architectures for the data lake; integrate structured and unstructured raw data from different sources and ensure data quality; and develop tables, views, store procedures, etc that will be used as the basis for various data products. The director has supervisory responsibilities, advising and guiding the work of individuals within the team, identifying and coordinating strategies across teams, and providing management and mentoring of staff.

Essential Job Duties

  • Designing and implementing data pipelines to efficiently extract, transform, and load (ETL) real-time and non-real-time from various internal & external data sources into a central repository or data lake using SSIS, HL7 feed, Rest APIs, Web Service, etc.
  • Building and maintaining scalable and robust data infrastructure using best practices and industry standards, including relational databases, data lakes, and distributed computing systems that are equipped to handle large volumes of data in our Cloud environment.
  • Implementing data validation and cleaning processes to ensure data quality and monitoring data pipelines for errors or anomalies.
  • Optimizing data storage and retrieval processes to enhance performance and reduce latency, particularly through techniques such as indexing, partitioning, and caching.
  • Building silver layer - tables/views that will be used as the basis for various data products (e.g., “visits”, “medications”) from multiple internal/external data sources; implementing and enforcing policies set by the Data Products and Governance team.
  • Developing and maintaining close relationships with internal/external analytics/data engineering teams and keeping abreast of issues and activities within those business areas and across NYP, WCM, and CUIMC, thus enabling responsive service and insightful design of information products, analysis of information, and consulting.
  • Defining priorities, initiatives, performance measures, and targets for the data platform team and tracking performance against objectives. Prioritizes, assigns, and supervises work to meet data requests.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, and orientation of employees in assigned areas. Providing work direction, assigning and/or scheduling work, conducting on-the-job training, and answering job-related questions. Monitors performance and adherence to attendance policies. Prepares performance evaluations and recommends appropriate personnel actions for staff, relative to promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action up to and including termination according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Investigating, evaluating, and maintaining current in the latest technologies. Implements any new technologies that may effectively and more efficiently meet departmental and organizational goals.
  • Performing other special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Requires on-site presence; therefore, should live within a commutable distance. No relocation assistance available.

    Required

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Minimum ten years of previous work-related experience
    • Experience with cloud-based data lake platforms
    • Experience working in a matrix environment
    • Excellent knowledge of Process Improvement and Quality Assurance activities
    • Ability to lead cross-functional team and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    Preferred

    • Master's Degree
    • Prior healthcare experience
    • Experience with cloud-based data lake platforms

    NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

    Salary Range: $179,500-$247,000/Annual
