CENTRAL PARK BOATHOUSE This historic building started over 150 years ago as an area to explore and rent rowboats, and over the years it has evolved into a landmark restaurant. This iconic space will continue to hold catered events, restaurant services and rowboat rentals to its millions of visitors each year. THE ROLE The Director of Events has a significant role in the successful operation of Legends. The position is charged with establishing an event sales strategy for the entire venue. In addition, this position will also be charged with maintaining client relationships with business groups, weddings, and social groups. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSOperational Excellence
  • Manage all aspects of an event from pre-planning, determining resource needs, pre-event marketing, and on-site coordination, to post event follow up.
  • Develop effective and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead, develop, and maintain an informed and well-versed team to execute events.
  • Ensure all event details are finalized and communicated to responsible department managers enabling sufficient lead time for product ordering, staff scheduling, and event preparation
  • Set clear goals, tasks, and deadlines for all individuals on the team.
  • Coach team members and assist them with their development.
  • Must be familiar with and understand our Event Contracts and ensure their accuracy.
  • Ascertains full-scope event details and plans accordingly; manages the budget, and directs all event logistics including management of staff and vendors for both on and off-premise events
  • Ability to effectively evaluate risks and liabilities of special events and venue rentals
Financial Performance
  • Prepare departmental annual budget; recommend capital improvements; control and monitor departmental expenditures; assist in preparation of estimated revenues for facility budget
  • Drives revenue goals to exceed $22M in event based revenue
  • Maintain financial records related to the operation of the department and meet required deadlines for reporting to the accounting department.
  • Track, record and report labor allocations in all areas of functional responsibility for purposes of forecasting, benchmarking and budgeting
Customer Service
  • Actively prospects, solicits, develops, and maintains catering accounts through personal sales calls, networking events, and on-site entertainment
  • Arrange required site inspections and meetings with clients on-site.
  • Maintain open communications and professional relationships with all of Legends departments and the Client.
  • Ensure all client and customer inquiries are responded to with a sense of urgency.
SKILL AND QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Proven leadership experience in a Catering Event environment and leading a team
  • Minimum of five years experience as a Director in the Hospitality or similar with at least 3 years leading a sales and event team.
  • Extensive social including wedding event experience is required
  • Prior experience generating a minimum of $2million in profitable event revenue
  • Bachelor s degree or better from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of report development and financial planning
  • Ability to develop and deliver sound recommendations
  • Detail-oriented
  • Proven ability to develop teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to delegate effectively
  • Experience working in a high volume landmark venue preferred
COMPENSATION Competitive salary $150,000- $160,000 plus commission, commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401k plan. Location: On site
