Job Description

Director, Cell Line Development Pre-Pivotal Biologics Development – Foster City, CA

Gilead has an opportunity for an industry experienced Cell Line development Scientist with Ph.D. and 8+ years, at our Foster City campus facility. We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to drive CLD execution for our rapidly growing biologics pipeline. The successful candidate will also contribute to the overall strategy of new technology development projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end Cell Line Development for pipeline projects, including activities from vector design and construction to clonal cell lines appropriate for Master Cell Bank generation.
  • Design, implement and apply high-throughput automation technologies for mammalian cell line generation and process optimization.
  • Drive process improvements for increased speed and efficiency to generate highly productive, high quality, robust cell lines that meet all regulatory requirements with high quality documentation.
  • Support cell banking, cell bank characterization and tech transfer operations.
  • Coordinate with both Research and CMC colleagues for efficient knowledge transfer.
  • Participate in Due Diligence and Manufacturability assessments.
  • Author technical reports, Regulatory filing support, present in group meetings, and work cross-functionally to achieve common goals.
  • Develop and motivate team of direct and indirect reports.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related fields with 8+ years experience OR M.S. with 10+ years experience OR B.S. with 12+ years industrial experience in biologics development with people leader accountabilities.
  • Demonstrated excellence in cell line development is required, including:
  • Experience designing, constructing, and evaluating vectors to express recombinant proteins of various formats including use of targeted integration and transposase mediated technologies.
  • Experience in mammalian gene expression systems and productivity enhancing technologies.
  • Experience with automation and high-throughput technologies as applied to mammalian cell line generation and process optimization.
  • Experience with Regulatory filing.
  • Experience with controlling product quality by cell engineering and/or cell line selection.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and adhere to timelines.

The salary range for this position is: $221,170.00 - $286,220.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
