The Director and Chief of Campus Safety is a key leadership position at Curry College and within the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the next Director & Chief will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of campus safety, security, and emergency preparedness. This individual will be expected to provide strategic direction, planning, and implementation of current and relevant policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Director & Chief will be responsible for fostering a collaborative work environment, emphasizing the importance of community policing, and successfully lead in a small college environment that values the important connection with students. The Director & Chief is charged with building trusting relationships and gaining the confidence of students, faculty and staff partners in the College community and is expected to be a consensus builder, effective both as an advocate and champion of students and the student experience.

Essential Functions:

The Director & Chief supervises a staff of sworn and un-sworn Officers, Dispatchers, Shuttle Drivers, a Campus Security Access Administrator, student employees and provides guidance and visionary collaboration within the overall Student Affairs division. A high level of campus visibility, strong communication, positive role modeling and commitment to equity, access and growth is essential. The Director & Chief is expected to build a department that supports the 24/7 on-call structure at the College and within Student Affairs and a strong partnership with local agencies within Milton, neighboring Boston and the region. This role requires strong communication and a hands-on approach and will require some evening and weekend hours.

1. Leadership and Administration:

* Provide visionary leadership to develop and implement comprehensive safety and emergency preparedness strategies;

* Direct and supervise campus safety personnel, including security officers, student dispatchers, and administrative staff;

* Responsible for all functions to ensure 24-hour staffing of the campus and for other events as necessary;

* Collaborate with campus stakeholders, including senior leadership, academic departments, student affairs, and local law enforcement agencies, to promote a safe and secure environment;

* Assist in the development of trainings to support staff (professional and student) across the campus on response, crisis management and safety support Policy Development and Compliance;

* Review, develop and enforce campus safety policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations;

* Ensure compliance as the Clery Act compliance officer for the institution, as well as any other, relevant laws and regulations related to campus safety and security;

* In conjunction with the Vice President of Student Affairs, regularly review and update emergency response plans and protocols to address emerging threats and best practices;

* Facilitate and manage the College's parking program;

* Manage a fleet of Campus Safety vehicles, including shuttle vans;

* Oversee departmental budgets, including overtime and special events budget lines.

2. Emergency Preparedness and Response:

* Coordinate emergency preparedness drills, training sessions, and tabletop exercises to enhance response capabilities;

* Serve as the primary point of contact during campus emergencies, providing timely and effective communication to stakeholders and coordinating response efforts;

* Conduct post-incident debriefings and analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions;

* Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

* Conduct regular assessments of campus safety and security risks, including physical infrastructure, technology systems, and environmental factors;

* Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address identified vulnerabilities and enhance campus resilience;

* Collaborate with facilities management to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of safety and security infrastructure, including lighting, surveillance cameras, and access control systems.

3. Community Engagement and Education:

* Foster a culture of safety and awareness through campus-wide educational initiatives, workshops, and awareness campaigns;

* Establish partnerships with student organizations, faculty committees, and community groups to promote safety and security awareness;

* Serve as a resource and liaison for students, faculty, and staff on safety-related concerns and issues;

* Provide strategic vision and direction for the Campus Safety program, working collaboratively with other Student Affairs programs to support the College's mission.

Additional Functions:

* As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, the Director/Chief will fulfill, from time to time, special projects and assignments that are within his/her capacity and serve on various committees across the institution;

* Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;

* Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, or a similar field of study or police officer certification. Graduate of a State Certified Police Academy. Strong foundation in training and campus safety in accordance with Massachusetts State laws.

* Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years post-graduate experience with significant experience in Campus Security administration is required.

* Six (6) to eight (8) years of command level supervisory experience in public safety services including law and regulation enforcement, security, investigative services, special events, parking and transportation services.

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and celebration for diversity.

* Experience with security, emergency management, and crisis response.

* Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate others, make an impact and grow a department and its team.

* Strong understanding and passion for a residential liberal education.

* Sensitivity to and understanding of contemporary higher education issues including but not limited to Sexual Violence, Mental Health & Wellness, Race, Gender and Inclusion.

* Commitment to student development approach and philosophy and a collaborative and transparent approach to problem-solving.

* Valid Driver's License.

* First Aid/CPR certification.

* Experience working with technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in criminal justice or related field.

* Supervisory experience at the Captain or Deputy Director level or higher in a college public safety operation, providing significant, direct, proactive interaction with all college constituents, and particularly students, while managing those essential functions as set out herein.

Salary Range:

$110,000 to $120,000 annually
