What you'll do

Airwallex is looking for an experienced transactional lawyer to lead our fast growing commercial legal team in North America. You will support a complex set of fintech products that will challenge your problem solving and critical thinking skills. You will support a wide variety of commercial legal matters supporting Airwallex's growing Sales team, and help us build for scale. This is a strategic leadership position with executive visibility and you will be a key advisor to Airwallex's US go-to-market leadership team and a senior leader on the legal team.

This position is based in San Francisco.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop Airwallex's US team of commercial attorneys

  • Develop and deploy scalable processes and resources for increasing the efficiency of the commercial legal team and our support for Airwallex's global business

  • Partner with Airwallex's dynamic, globally distributed commercial leadership to support the scaling GTM efforts which, in turn, enable the advancement of multi-product and multi-jurisdictional deal strategies and initiatives

  • Manage a wide variety of complex commercial deals originating in the US, many with significant cross-border elements; draft and negotiate outbound SaaS commercial agreements, strategic partnership agreements, and key vendor agreements

  • Build a strong, collaborative working relationship with our sales and partnerships teams in order to close deals efficiently; help our sales teams scale by working with them to improve legal processes, playbooks, and templates on a continuous basis

  • Work closely and effectively with Airwallex's global legal, compliance, and risk teams on deals and projects that involve multiple jurisdictions

  • Handle a variety of other projects and requests as the need arises

  • Make positive contributions to the culture of the Airwallex legal team, the Americas leadership team, and the company as a whole

  • Be an active and trusted advisor and leader in the Airwallex legal org and with our go-to-market teams.

Who you are

We're looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one US state bar (California or New York preferred)

  • 10 years of experience in an in-house legal department and/or a law firm advising on legal issues related to financial services and technology platforms

  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating technology transactions, SaaS agreements, and other customer-facing services agreements

  • Excellent communication, drafting, negotiation, and writing skills

  • The ability to explain complex legal concepts to various (often non-legal) audiences, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deals

  • High motivation and the ability to operate independently and pivot quickly within a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment

  • A learner's mentality: you are consistently looking to take on new and diverse challenges and expand your knowledge beyond your current areas of expertise

  • A collaborative and empathetic mindset, a good sense of humor, and a keen understanding of how to work effectively with colleagues from different teams and backgrounds

  • Experience managing and growing a team of lawyers
