Serves as the key contact for leadership and inquiries related to internal/external exams, including Consumer Bank and Brand Experience exams. Identifies and assesses operational risks, implements controls, monitors for issues, and reports risks to stakeholders. Acts as the Point Person for the first line of defense, ensuring collaboration with the second and third lines of defense. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Designs and executes first line of defense risk management plans and activities. Reviews business changes for policy adherence; identifies and assesses risk for all core Consumer Banking processes to ensure appropriate risk mitigation is in place to achieve business objectives.
- Leads the efforts to monitor and track the progress of remediation efforts, ensuring that action items are completed within established timelines and that appropriate controls are in place to mitigate risks. Assists in tracking progress and completion of required regulatory corrective actions and partners with Consumer Bank leadership to ensure adherence to remediation plans.
- Leads and executes Consumer Bank risk management projects and ad-hoc analyses and reporting. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management regarding the status of risk management activities. Develops systematic approach to monitor progress of internally and externally identified issues with eye on compliance adherence, timely remediation and closure
- Subject matter expert on emerging market and regulatory risks related to Consumer Bank. Provides guidance to senior management relating to developing trends and changes affecting Consumer Compliance, BSA/AML Compliance heightened operational risks
- Evaluates regulatory, market and strategic landscape and ensures new and emerging risks are identified, assessed and appropriate planning and activities are scheduled timely.
- Recommends enhancements to Consumer line of business where appropriate, including reporting of self-identified issues. Engages in active two-way collaboration with Second Line Risk Management, communicating business changes that impact enterprise programs and navigating enterprise risk program changes that impact Consumer Banking.
- Serves as Consumer Bank subject matter expert on risk assessment and internal controls and is the primary contact with internal partners for coordination, scheduling, issues, and resolution activities.
- Collaborates with Risk Senior management and Consumer Banking Senior management to ensure strong design and execution of first line of defense activities, including exam readiness, testing scope, redress and efficiency.
- Establishes key risk indicators (KRI) for Consumer Bank in alignment with Synovus' overall risk appetite. Monitors and reports compliance with KRIs to relevant Risk and Consumer Bank leadership. Develops reasonable and timely action plans to close any gaps identified through monitoring.
- Maintains knowledge of risk trends and changes in laws and regulations. Provides Consumer Bank leadership and team members guidance on where changes are needed and provides training regarding lending-related laws and regulations. Uses KRI monitoring and other activities to identify when targeted risk management training is needed within the Consumer Bank.
- Oversees the Consumer Bank broad self-testing framework to include digital, consumer and marketing to mitigate risk and exposure within Consumer Bank. Ensures team is prepared and ready for exams and runs point on redress process implementation.
- Manages the annual performance management and merit processes for direct and indirect reports. Coaches and develops team members and builds a work environment where team members are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in the company. Works closely with Human Resources regarding employee relations, compensation, training, posting and filling vacant positions and other Human Resources related matters.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
