What is a Director - Corporate Communications?
The Director of Communications is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the company's goals. This role collaborates closely with the senior executive team to foster a positive corporate image and maintain strong relationships with customers, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
What does a Director - Corporate Communications do?
* Develops and leads an integrated communications strategy encompassing all internal and external communications, ensuring consistency and alignment with company objectives
* Directs the daily operations of the corporate communications team, including management of the external website, internal SharePoint platform, social media, video production, corporate ambassador program, employee communications, media relations and applicable storm restoration communications
* Partners with internal stakeholders to create and deliver internal company communications, providing tailored solutions that engage employees and facilitate organizational change
* Utilizes employee and customer feedback to inform communication plans, proactively identifying reputational risk and opportunities to inform stakeholders of the information that matters to them
* Acts as the corporation's chief spokesperson or manage this function when delegated
* Identifies and stays informed on key national, state, and local economic, political, and social trends that impact the organization
* Understands and articulates the company's key policy positions, including energy, environmental and economic policies
* Actively engages with internal departments to support their key objectives through community and political outreach
What does it take to be a Director - Corporate Communications?
Required:
* Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field and 10+ years of marketing, branding, campaign management, crisis management or communications experience. Equivalent of education and experience may be considered.
* Experience creating and leading communications strategy and content, and a track-record of deploying innovative strategies for engaging key audiences
* Ability to recognize and navigate internal and external political landscapes, recognizing the implications of various actions and decisions
* Excellent verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
* Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret near-term and long-term plans and determine how best to position the company to achieve successful outcomes
* Strong organizational and managerial skills and a high level of attention to detail
* Ability to successfully perform in a matrixed team structure
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
* Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to support communication and public relations efforts when necessary
* Must be willing to travel throughout Central Hudson's service territory to attend outreach events
* Valid driver's license
Preferred:
* Master's degree or higher
* Knowledge of and experience with New York State and/or federal energy policy matters
* Experience in the regulated electric and/or gas utility industry
