Summary

Seeking an accomplished individual to assume the role of Head/Director of Tax for our headquarters located in Salt Lake City, UT. The Director of Tax is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's tax planning, compliance, and strategy. This role involves ensuring that the company meets its tax obligations while optimizing its tax position. The Head/Director of Tax will lead a team of tax professionals, coordinate with external advisors, and work closely with other departments to align tax strategies with business goals.

Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities:Tax Strategy and Planning:
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Advise senior management on the tax implications of business activities and strategic decisions.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of tax law changes and develop strategies to respond to these changes.
  • Understand the company's intercompany transactions and develop strategies to ensure low risk between tax and customs authorities.
Tax Compliance:
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Manage audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
Tax Accounting and Reporting:
  • Oversee the tax accounting process, including the preparation of tax provisions and deferred tax calculations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax-related items in the financial statements.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure proper documentation and support for tax positions.
Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the tax team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Manage the recruitment and retention of tax staff.
Risk Management:
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks through effective internal controls and policies.
  • Ensure proper documentation and support for tax positions and transactions.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices to maintain a robust tax risk management framework.
  • Monitor and develop operational transfer pricing processes to ensure smooth intercompany transactions with correct markups and pricing.
  • Review jurisdictional profitability from intercompany transactions and make changes to intercompany agreements and update SAP tables as necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Legal, Finance, Operations) to provide tax advice and support on various projects and transactions.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and consultants as needed.
  • Communicate complex tax issues and strategies to non-tax professionals, including senior management and the board of directors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA or other relevant certification preferred.
  • Master's degree in accounting with emphasis in Taxation required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of tax accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective tax strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a similar role within a large corporation or public accounting firm.
  • International tax experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Onesource Tax Provision and Onesource Income Tax software and SAP.
