Role Summary

As the Director building out our new Employee Relations function, you will spearhead industry-leading capabilities enabling compassionate mediation and resolution of workplace conflicts. Reporting to the VP of Transformation and Operations, you will architect the strategy and operating model centered on fostering belonging, repairing working relationships, and tackling complex employee situations with care. By partnering with business leaders as their trusted advisor on grievances, and driving company-wide adoption of offerings, you will make your mark as the innovative, collaborative leader able to create this new function and establish operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of a leading-edge Employee Relations function focused on conflict mediation and resolution.
  • Create the strategy, operating model, team structure, roles, policies, procedures, and service delivery approach to drive operational excellence.
  • Conduct assessment of current-state pain points, risks, and gaps to inform the buildout of new function.
  • Implement intake protocols, case tracking systems, escalation workflows and quality control audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement, effectiveness, and strategic priority setting in case and project management.
  • Lead a team focused on employee relations issues, performance management, and workplace conflict through a lens focused on belonging, inclusion and living our values.
  • Forge close collaboration with HR functions on coordinated case oversight, integrated protocols, systems, and effectiveness metrics.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to instill conflict resolution methodologies into manager/employee skillsets.
  • Implement communications campaigns and change management strategies to promote adoption of the new model across the organization.
  • Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in Employee Relations or directly related field.
  • Proven leadership ability in guiding teams through transformational change while maintaining high engagement and performance.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing an employee relations function, including developing and implementing employee relations strategies, policies, and programs in a large organization.
  • Skilled at attracting, developing and motivating top talent to reach their full potential.
  • Success applying innovative, data-driven thinking to solve complex, long-standing challenges and deliver high-impact outcomes.
  • Strong business and people acumen with consulting, conflict resolution and facilitation abilities.
  • In-depth understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion issues and their application to employee relations.
  • Expert knowledge of US employment laws, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, and HR best practices.
  • Pay Disclosure

    Salary Range for California based applicants: $150,000 - 220,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

    Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
