JOB SUMMARYThe Enterprise Safety Director leads and drives the safety culture at PODS by creating the strategy and influencing the leadership and support for Safety in the organization. This position works in conjunction with the PODS leadership to perpetuate and improve the company's safety culture and performance. This position is responsible for developing a strategy and delivering programs/training to drive safety principles and practices to create a highly-engaged, dynamic and behavior-based safety culture throughout the organization; and will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining proactive processes, tools that will optimize safety performance and ensure regulatory compliance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•Develop and implement an enterprise Safety strategy that creates a positive, consistent Safety culture.•Determine the organization, resources and tools needed to drive a behavior based safety strategy•Accountability to manage driver compliance, including ownership of driver files•Responsible for assisting with safety sensitive training•Uphold all areas of regulatory compliance with various government agencies and industry standards: OSHA, DOT, FMCSA•Maintain the safety systems in place to ensure all recorded information is accurate and belongs to our company record. Oversee regular driver audits to ensure compliance.•Create and implement programs/training that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material procedures, and the use of protective equipment. •Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. •Implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents to drive continuous safety improvement•Drives accountability for performance, oversee and guide the safety performance programs and drive leading performance indicators through a Safety Dashboard. •Ensure operations are sustainable and compliant with group, regulatory, industry and all safety requirements•Work closely with the Business Units and functional leadership to align priorities and get buy-in for successful implementation of safety initiatives/programs/training. •Positively influence the desired safety behaviors of our associates through reward and recognition programs.JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred, and 10 years of progressive safety experience with at least 5 years leading a team and minimum of 2 years as a current Director level.
- General safety and risk management certifications preferred, including Certified Safety Director (CDS), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS), Associated Safety Professional (ASP), and Certificate for Occupational Safety Managers (COSM).
- Thorough knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
- Proficient in safety management software and telematics systems.
- Proven leadership and team management skills derived from having direct responsibility for building and managing a cohesive, high-performance team.
- Ability to identify, communicate and inspire an organization around the critical steps to improve our safety programs.
- Experience working in an organization with a large fleet and operation.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make decisions quickly.
- An enterprise mindset with the ability to recognize and adjust to cultural and business drivers, while working effectively across teams.
- Conceptual, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to determine appropriate courses of action for achieving long-range organizational safety goals.
