Position Summary:

The Director of Events and Engagement Programs is a key member of Audubon's Development Team, responsible for developing and executing strategies for fundraising and campaign events. This role also involves building a series of engagement opportunities designed to deepen relationships with current and prospective funders. In addition, the Director will oversee the development and expansion of the Canopy Giving Society.

Reporting to the VP of Development Services, the Director will serve as the lead project manager for these initiatives. They will collaborate closely with Development staff and Program colleagues across Audubon to ensure seamless, successful, and measurable fundraising and donor cultivation activities.

Compensation:

$140,000-$155,000

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

* Develop an overarching engagement and fundraising strategy for events and programs on behalf of Audubon.

* Oversee and execute mission-based events to cultivate and steward donors and prospects inclusive of, but not limited to: Campaign-related events; Women in Conservation luncheons in NYC and Texas; select other state-based fundraising events; other cultivation events; programmatic events to support organizational initiatives; and other donor events.

* Act as lead project manager for all events; create timelines, analyze revenue and expense information against budgets, and hold staff accountable for completing actions necessary for event success.

* Liaise with external vendors on all event logistics, such as catering, entertainment, facility and audio visual needs, travel, and lodging. Prepare, negotiate, and execute contracts as needed.

* Manage timelines for development of event messaging for staff and volunteer speakers.

* Along with the VP, Development Services and other staff as needed, build and finalize invitation lists, check in with invitees, and organize the process of requesting gifts and securing pledges.

* Manage the event follow-up process both internally and with donors; oversee mailings, to-do lists, and acknowledgements to individuals. Additionally, coordinate with the prospect research team to ensure event briefings are produced in a timely way.

* Supervise Audubon events team, comprised of Canopy Program Manager and Engagement Events Manager.

* Oversee the hiring and supervision of professional event planners and key vendors.

* Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

* Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

* Bachelor's degree, as well as 7+ years' supporting special events for an organization in progressively senior positions.

* Experience working in a nonprofit organization supporting fundraising needs desired, but not required.

* Professional, collaborative, and efficient approach to all aspects of position; must be a team player.

* Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Zoom, and impeccable technical skills, including high-level comfort with event -apps, sites, tools. Salesforce knowledge and cvent certification preferred.

* Experience with Asana or similar project management software is required; demonstrated ability to stay abreast of time and effort enhancing tools. Knowledge of relevant digital programs preferred, including Slack.

* A self-starter, one who is able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and ensure deadlines are met.

* Excellent organizational skills, as well as written and oral communication skills, a must.

* Keen attention to detail required.

* Ability to interact with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, such as Board and Committee members, vendors, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.

* Familiarity with event venues and opportunities in New York City.

* A team player who works collaboratively with others, has strong judgment and decision making skills, and takes initiative where appropriate.

* A flexible approach to work, with the willingness to work some evenings and weekends and travel for events when necessary.

* Willingness and ability to travel both nationally and internationally, Estimated at 10%.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality, while exercising discretion and personal judgment where appropriate.

* Ability to focus, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a rapidly moving environment.
